Considering Buying an OS

Greetings All
Ive been an EVO owner for 6 years and before that a WRX owner for another 6 years. The moral of that story is Im used to driving higher performance cars.

So Im considering a Outlander Sport for my wife. I happen to be driving a dealer OS right now while the Evo is being worked on (recall).

And honestly......Im impressed. Coming from an Evo I would think me of all people would not like this little car but I kind of do. I find it to be convenient (size), peppy in traffic even with the CVT, and reasonably attributed.

My only real criticism is lack of leg room in the front (especially as a passenger), and the stereo is way outdated as in it reminds me of the digital clocks of the 1980s.

There is a fair amount of wind noise to which could be tiresome on longer trips.

Im really liking the idea of a 100,000 or 10 year warranty.

So the big question is:
Are you happy with your OS? And if not, knowing what you know now what would you have gotten instead?

Have you had any issues with your OS? Maintenance or otherwise?

Just bought one 3 days ago for the wife ... I also have an Evo X, and have owned an '02 WRX and an '05 Legacy GT. Traded her '05 Forester XT for it. While the OS lags behind the FXT in quickness, its going to work well for her as far as convenience and gas mileage. We did not bother trying the 2.0L, and ended up with a 2.4L GT. Test drove a '15 Forester and Crosstrek and were unimpressed. She wanted something small like her old Forester, but the Crosstrek was too slow. The OS gets you a lot for the money, and the warranty is a nice bonus.
Got the RF stereo -have it in my Evo, and it was the first car ive owned where I didnt replace the HU and speakers. Its not the best, but its good enough that I didnt feel it needed replaced. Tweaking the EQ offers pretty good sound.

OP,
Welcome to the OS section of the forum.

For safety (rating AND Actual testimony) plus overall warranty coverage, there's no other brand/model that can beat this little CUV.
If you get the AWD > it's the only CUV on the market that lets you switch from FWD Only to AWD when you need it, for the price range under $25K.

The size of this vehicle is just right for all around convenience. "Big" enough to haul all the possible basics and plenty easy to find parking space.

Only issues are the road/wind & CVT noises. Which can be remedied with aftermarket sound damping pads.

The good thing is now (as of 2015) you get two engines 2.0L and a 2.4L - as compared to only having the 2.0L since 2011. (There is a debate of the beneficial gain of the 2.4L which only gives you just 20HP & dings you on MPGs. But, at least you have a choice now.)

Regarding maintenance -
Real simple, just the schedule oil changes and tire rotations.

The 2.0 is a dog. If possible get the 2.4. I do a lot of highway driving and sometimes I just wish this thing had more nuts. Otherwise this car is pretty solid and does what I need it to. It commutes from A to B fine, but if you get the 2.0 you will at times want more power.

The only other thing I really looked at was the CX5. It was very nice.

Ultimately I traded in a worn out Grand Cherokee and they (Mitsubishi) gave me good money for it so I went with the Sport.

The truth is the small SUV/CUV is really competitive and I would be shocked if any manufacturer was putting out a sub-par product at this point in the game. Just find one you like and pull the trigger.

Additionally, we looked at ALL other CUVs at the time of our purchase (2013) and would have chosen a Mazda CX-5 2.5L IF the dealer(s) weren't so damn hung up on their own hype and unwilling to move off their "Dealer Add-ons" on top of the MSRP.

To get Both AWD And Xenon (HID) headlights in the CX-5 -which were our primary requirements- the price was well over $32,789w/TTL (& no 0% available) at that time.

Knowing we were expecting a new baby, we really didn't want to spend that much on a new vehicle. Plus, we didn't really need that 'large' of a vehicle just to carry a stroller.

I own a 2015 se awc. Heated seats and back up camera. Also came with a lifetime powertrain warranty upgrade and I paid 21950. Compare that to all the other small crossover suvs with similar features and awd and your looking at close to 30k. That was my first sell. They may not be thefastest but the mpg is among the top of the class. Much better that the spa estimate for me. Average 30mpg. I think it's the best looking of all the crossovers as well. Im very happy with my purchase and I'm using the $8k I saved to mod. Lots of interchangeables between the sport and lancer. The last sell for me was the os is among the safest crossovers. If you have a family riding in it that should be a huge sell. Plus with the awd I was able to travel through a 17in snow storm that we landed this winter without concerns
