ESS Emergency Stop Signal System

I was browsing the UK site and see this feature mentioned in "features" section.

I don't see this being mentioned anywhere on the Canadian or US site so I'm wondering if it's even a feature on our units or not?

Description:

ESS (Emergency Stop signal System) reduces the possibility of rear end collisions during sudden braking by the rapid and automatic blinking of the hazard warning lamps to alert vehicles approaching from behind.

Seems kinda cool

I have not tried myself but I think it can be enabled via ETACS programming. One of our fellow members (both here and there) did it:

The multicolor instrument cluster even has an icon for it.

I swaer that ETACS thing is the proverbial "Sorcerer's Stone"! LOL Any way... one of these bad boys could do the trick. http://www.3rdbrakeflasher.com/brake...-flasher-c-65/ I think I am going to get the accelerometer based one.

Yes, most likely those will do the job as well. The ETACS programming has great potentials because most cases no wiring change or modification is involved. Here is part of the menu options related to ESS. The red boxes may or may not work (I only changed settings that I was absolutely certain and I needed). Interestingly, there is an option to enable accelerometer(s). I suppose these are not the ones that activate the airbags in case of an accident since they must be active.
On the same page the the green options work for sure.

Slight deviation from the thread:
Some people asked recently about folding mirrors. Those can also be enabled if one purchases a compatible mirror like this:

Fascinating info! You know, I don't think I want to muck with it, but I would pay a decent buck for someone to tweak the ETAC box in my 11 RVR.

NOTE - Keep in mind that the folding mirrors will require a control module that replaces the mirror control switch. So, make sure you know what you're getting Before you get just the mirror.
