AutoCanada Acquires Mits Dealers

Interesting little tidbit for Mits owners in Western Canada. Hyatt Mitsubishi is now part of the AutoCanada group. In fact, it looks like ALL Mits dealers in Alberta are now owned by this conglomerate. I have't checked other provinces but it would not surprise me if they continue to acquire them. I am not sure what this will mean in the long run but larger groups have more purchasing power so maybe better prices?

Yes... UNFORTUNATELY, That does NOT translate to better prices for us consumers. It lowers their costs which means even higher profits for the dealers.

Larger conglomerates/groups means they are sheltered BETTER from competition -comparison shoppers. Direct example is when shoppers threaten to "I'll take my business elsewhere/down the street" routine, the Sale Manager/General Manager/Dealership won't have to worry as much because as a group, they know they own practically ALL the dealership in town that you might go to. They can/will share your info and can see where you've shopped already and at what negotiated prices.

Also, their "backend" parts department don't have to compete on giving you discounts on parts whenever DIY-ers come looking for parts. They can charge more on OEM parts because they have all the source locked out.

Meaning even independent mechanics have to buy from them/dealerships.

Yeah, that is interesting. Platinum seems to be OK although their parts prices were higher that Hyatt/Courtesy.
