Rear cargo cover?

My 2015 OS came with the hard rear tonneu cover. While I like having the privacy sometimes, I really hate it! Has anyone bought/found a retractable shade that will fit in its place?

I was contemplating with the idea but have not taken the plunge yet.

I've been thinking the same thing.

Sounds like a great idea! http://www.aliexpress.com/store/prod...399391924.html Much cheaper for the older ones. Well except for shipping. But I will likely find a free shipper.

Let me know if any of you order. I'm embroiled in a battle for xmas presents from a company I had never ordered from before. I'm leary about ordering from another one I've never heard of before. Especially when the item would ship from China.

why do you hate it? i made them throw it in when we bought the car. previous car had the retractable one, which i thought i would have preferred, but not really the case.

i guess if you're constantly hauling big stuff, it would get in the way, but you'd have to remove the retractable one just the same.

if you're hauling small stuff, it just lifts out of the way with the tailgate, unlike the retractable.

I do not know about the OP's reasons but here is why I am thinking about buying one and the reasons I am hesitating.
pros:
-The retractable is just a rod shape object and must be easier to put away when carrying large objects than the large rectangular shaped tonneau cover.
- When opening the trunk currently one must bend and tuck to see and find items deeper and when taking them out again the items must be pulled first and not lifted. I have hit my head a few times during one of these maneuvers.

cons:
-One could not place items on top of it and use as a shelf (although it reduces rear visibility to use this option with the tonneau cover)
-My biggest problem is that I have no idea how much extra noise (cracking, rattling etc.) it would generate in motion. If it does, it would be a dealbreaker for me. I have already installed foamy inserts here and there where the tonneau cover touches the plastics to minimize noise from the back. I admit , I may have OCD when it comes to noises.

My reasons are mostly in line with AWCAWD. I'm 4'11" tho, so I don't have to bend but, nonetheless it hangs too low for me even when just removing groceries. My 16 year old throws his enormous backpack back there on the way to and from school and I can tell you it's in his way. It's not like I can just take it out at will. I mean, suppose I'm at the store and on impulse decide to buy a new TV. A roller can be rolled out of the way or removed. The tonneu, on the other hand, would need to go somewhere. It's not the least bit flexible and it's kinda huge. I hate it...oops, did I say that already? LOL

Oh, and mine doesn't make any noise but a shade would be a deal breaker for me too if it did.

Fold the rear seats and put the hard tonneau behind the front seats?

That's a thought, but if either front seat is even the slightest bit reclined, I don't think it would work.

I just tried in my 2011. Works fine and even better if you remove the rear headrests which allow the front seats to be slid all the way back and reclined a fair bit. I think you need something to keep prying eyes shut out of the stuff in the back - dark glass notwithstanding.

we also removed the rear headrests, but only to get a little more rear visibility.
