New tires?

It may fit but it is outside the recommended difference from the stock.
Your speedometer will certainly be off. What is your purpose with the new tire? Do you want wider tire or higher side profile, or both?
The 235/55 18 still gives -1.8% error in speed but you would gain 4.5% increase in width. 235/50 18 is a perfect fit but these tires may not be as common as the stock. BTW, the speedometer adjustment can be done by programming the ETACS but it is not something you can learn overnight. You would need to know the circumference of the new tire and use Diagbox or ETACS Decoder software with an OBDII interface to input the new value.
To go with higher side profile you have to change your wheels to 17" or 16".
The 235/60 17 tire would be a perfect fit (to a new wheel provided the offset is say between 38 and 46 mm) and you would gain the same 4.5% in with and also 14.5% in side wall. The ASX came with 17" wheels in the past until recently so, you could get easily 17" used OEM wheels cheap. This, however, would be extra cost.
Tiresize.com os similar sites are good places to try different combinations. You may also check out the "Show me your custom wheels" thread as many forum members opted for different wheel sizes. Do not forget to read about how a different tire size effects the ride, handling and fuel economy.
Good luck.
