Yeah I was wondering about those tires in the cold/wet. The search for a trackable set of cold/wet tires continues....

honestly dont think you'll find a (of any significance) better street tire. like anything else though they need tlc or they'll eventually turn into bricks.

aggressive heat cycling and/or extended exposure to cold (below 40) makes high performance street tires unhappy

Well to be fair the Dunlops are classified as performance summer tires. In the cold and the wet it would be possible to outperform them with performance all seasons. Obviously it can only work if you are either willing to sacrifice performance in the summer/dry or if you have two sets of rims/tires specifically for early spring/late fall and summer respectively.

I fall into the latter case .

just checking in to see if anyone is going to be out there tomorrow?

If so, I'll be there - Silver Evo 9 with carbon hood.

had a great time on Sunday despite deciding not to go and then getting talked into it at the last minute, lol. The weather held out and the track was mostly empty, really fun.. all that despite nursing a brand new set of tires and an alternate (safer) fuel map, not to mention my buddies car not feeling so hot :/ We didn't get a chance to chat with the other rally car people that were there, hopefully next time. here's a few laps of me following the Taco Time EVO, until he had to exit to remove the rest of his ailing fender liner.

went through 2 tanks of gas on Sunday, insane.

I was there too and it was a pretty good day. Only had one session where the rain started coming down on the backside of the track.

I was in the silver Evo 9 with a carbon hood and took off around 3 or so. If you don't mind me asking:
1. What tires were you running or would ideally run in those conditions (minus the rain part) as I imagine track days will be similar or slightly warmer until June timeframe?

2. What lap times are typical for stock Evo 9 (5 speed) and basic mods? Assuming a decent driver? I saw that turbotim06 run in the 145's but summer times are in the high 130's (and he's packing some serious hp for the straights).

I steadily improved throughout the day and ran a best time of 148.18 on Saturday in the but it was the last lap of the session (before cool down) and then the next session had rain.

I got 300whp/300wtq, decent coilovers and suspension set up, DBA4000 rotors all around, Hawk HPS+ pads all around, upgraded lines, fluid, etc.. and running 275/35/18 Hankook V12's.

Have to been to Pacific a bunch before but that was my first time collecting solid data.

Will be out there again this next Sunday assuming it is not a total downpour.

oh and re tire recommendations, I'm planning to get a second wet up of wheels/tires and looking to do 17x9 and 255 or 265 tires.

These will ideally be mostly dry tires and have been looking at NT01 class tires.

Hey; sorry we didn't get a chance to meet.

I was breaking in a brand new set of Dunlop Star Spec Z1s in 245/40/17. We're heavy into autocross and that's what we run there (limited to 245). We've had a lot of experience and testing of all the various "street touring" legal street tires over the years but not so much anything else.. so I'm probably not the best person to ask. That said, the full tread Dunlops seemed fine. The last trip to PR I had a set of 3/32~ Dunlops, honestly I think they worked a bit better, but I wasn't also battling scrubbing/new-tire syndrome.

My GPS unit wasn't working but from what I could gather from the video from Sunday I was running right around 1:40~ on average, the best I calculated from one of my runs was a 1:38~. I know I got faster towards the end but not only was the GPS not working but the video crapped out as well. Bummer too, I was having a lot of fun tagging along with the two Pro3 guys and it would have been some great footage to share with them. The last time we were there my friend calculated we were in the 1:37s... but I have no data to back any of this up .

Thanks for the heads up on the cancellation this weekend, I would have been the only idiot to show up.

Re data collection, I was using Harry's Lap Timer app which seemed to work well and a buddy and I are working on a more advanced app to bring to Windows Phone (yes, we work at msft haha but are going to try to bring it to iOS if it works out right).

Going to try to make it out for the 3rd!

Sounds good! Once we get closer to a finished product we're going to make it available to people on the forums for some testing. Shooting for next month some time and full force by April.

^^look forward to the app. I was going to do something simliar for WP7 as well but my current phone's GPS seems to be so off I would spend more time trying to get that accurate than working on the app
