St. Helens Cruise, May 19th 10AM

I put this cruise together last year and it was quite a bit of fun for everybody.

The road up to Johnson Ridge Observatory is scheduled to open in early/mid May and this is a great time for a drive up to the observatory before all the campers/vacationers spoil the roadways with their RV's.

Please be aware that road conditions at this time of year on the forest service roads is much worse than the freeway, winter tires are encouraged.

The return rout is to go through Castle Rock where there is a good pizza spot for dinner.

North-end departure location: northend departure spot will LEAVE Krispy Creme at Tacoma Mall at 10am

Final meeting location: Castle Rock, WA (Exit 49) movie theater.

PLEASE NOTE: in past years there has not been a enforcement issue, however there is to be NO speeding or tom foolery while cruising through the town of Toledo or Castle Rock. Those are smaller towns and their local enforcement does not take kindly to it. Lets not ruin the drive before it really starts or have them radio ahead to the fish and wildlife agents.

Last year there was some small snow accumulation by the side of the road. The roads themselves were clear but temperatures were very low (~35-38) so the max summer tires will be down on traction.

With all this global warming its hard to know what conditions will be like. (a balmy 85 wouldnt be so bad)
