Trials and tribulations of a trackday car...
On March 25th I finished the day at PIR with AROO, making some solid 1:28 laps. On March 26th my car went to Racetech Fabrications for a 8 point cage. Over the next week, I'm down pulling my interior, including the dash and all associated wiring. Over the next two months, bars are being fit, parts being ordered, 6pt FIA harness, OMP 1 piece seat, foam, window net..... chaos insues... The usual.
On the 19th of May the cage is completed, enough of the car is together to drive it home, but on the 20th I fly to DC for a week. I return the 27th to put the car back together, fitting some of the interior bits back together, remount the ECU, PAINT the cage (Yes, in the driveway)!
My Team Dynamics 17x8 wheels come off the car and go down to Skip's Wheelwerks for straightening.
New Girodisc rotors all the way around go on while the wheels are off, with caliper rebuild kits for all 4 corners and Ti Shims.
Fast forward to June 28th, my Birthday! My first track day after all of this work is scheduled for June 29th.
I get a phonecall from Skip saying one of my Team Dynamics wheels are cracked, so I won't have wheels for tomorrow. He dismounts all of the tires for pickup, as I have my stock Enkei IX wheels in the shed with my snow tires on board.
I run the car to America's Tire (Discount Tire) at 4PM to have the Dunlop * specs mounted in the IX Enkei's to have them break a stud off in the rear hub!
Apparently Discount Tire doesn't do any vehicle work in shop. They said sorry about the broken stud, we don't sell replacements, and worse of all, they didn't even have a F%^king lug nut! (But we didn't know they didn't even have a lug nut at this point.)
My girlfriend hops in the truck and beelines to English Racing, who has a brand new stud in stock, and would leave it out for her to come get it. (It's world wide closing time at this point, pushing 5:30 and we're :30 away!)
About this time Discount figures out there's no lug nuts for Mitsubishi's in their sub par inventory of miscellanious left over crap.
The Mitsubishi dealer is a block away, so not the end of the word, until I call them! No lug nut! WTF this is my birthday, something should go my way!
On the way back to the house, I stop by Les Schwab, no lug nut, Baxster Auto Parts, no lug nut!!!
You can only guess at my frustration at this point....
Around 7 I text Lucas English, knowing he would be at the track the next day hoping he might still be on the north side of the Columbia, and hopefully could grab a lug nut.
He's already at the track though with the Mobile Home and trailer...CRAP!
Holy hell, 3 months of prep for tomorrow, and I'm out over a f%&king LUG NUT ON MY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
I won't lie, I contemplated driving around town with a note explaining my story and a $20 bill to steal a lug nut off an Evo parked somewhere!!!
About 15 minutes later, I just get the stud seated back in the rear hub, I get a text from Myles. He's heading to the shop to pick up 1 factory lug nut (which they had 40 in stock)!!!!!!
Sometimes big catastophies prevent us from putting miles on the ODO, but times like this, the little things like a lug nut can be just as frustrating. I don't know of any shop that would step up like this and help a fellow motor head out when it really matters. Myles met us in the morning at PIR with lug nuts in hand for a fun trackday that I was able to take part in with my new stud and lug nut in place!
Special thanks to Myles and English Racing for making Friday possible! Finally after 3 months of building!

awesome (but crappy) story. yeah, it's always the details that can ruin things.
Going to be at PIR on July 26th for a Proformance School track day - any chance of seeing you/your car there?
I'll have to make the dive into your direction this winter and would love to check out your car/pick your brain.

I might, I generally just hop in to trackdays now and again, but ATM I'm tireless. My * specs are done on heat cycles. 1/2 way thru Friday the tires were rock hard, with 150 degree surface temps LOL.
Tires for me at this point mean new wheels too. Going to do a track only setup in the near future, so time will tell when I drop 3k again.

That's really cool that English Racing/Myles Kerr went out of their way to help you. It's what makes them the best. I hope you don't mind but I linked your post to English Racing's Facebook page.
No problem JDZNate, glad you did actually!
Cage was $2500.00
I keep threatening to do a build thread for pics, but I haven't gotten there yet haha! I have a bunch of pics on my phone of the build process
