There has only been an opportunity to reflash Evolution ROMs for less than 3 years.

This information is not correct Scott

I obtained my Evo in March 2003, and I was using SAFC and then Emanage to tune it

In late July, 2003 I obatined a Works' Brain Flash (Works had started Flash tuning in May or June) to raise my rev limiter - using these tools I had the fastest Evo at the 2003 DSM shootout Evo Eliminator Class - (2nd place finish) Reference feature article Oct 2003, Modified Magazine and also race coverage in same issue.

At that point I purchased the $5,500 Tech Tom reflasher Works was using for my own use to tune my own car - I picked it up in Early September 2003. Shortly thereafter, I started tuning some local Evos to recover my investment in the equipment. The rest they say is history.

Awesome guy. Awesome tuner. No "off the shelf" tuning with this guy. Not only did I get an incredible tune (~40 ft. lbs @ 6000 for example), I gained a wealth of konwledge just talking to him about tuning and why he's changing what he's changing.

For $50, it should be a no brainer. I'd gladly pay 3x that for the service and tune I received.

I had a mail-in flash from one of the vendors on this poll, but recently received a custom road tune from another vendor not included in this poll. I would suggest a custom tune, it was certainly worth the extra money! Gained almost 30 hp, with the same mods. I think all these vendors are reputable shops.

I think the vote should include a mixture of

1 - How many tunes each tuner has done, what is the engine failure rate - kind of like a EFA (engine failure average)

2 - Track results in MPH in the 1/4 mile with each tuner's work product

3 - How many different parts combinations each tuner has maps to support in varying climates and conditions.

4 - Maybe a peanut gallery of so called "experts" who can assert how each tune "feels" on the road.

Sadly, many polls like these are popularity contests.

It is like asking which brand of oil you prefer Castrol or Vavoline - how many people have tested the oil in a labratory to verify

I like the results of my last flash (after 4 years of daily Evo tuning I have a long line of good results) this is my latest

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=269014

Best bang for the buck you can buy, and with a proven record of reliabilty over the past 4 years with many 2003 evo customers now over 100,000 miles or reliable use

Yea how about adding customer service to that list? Customer service is HUGE to me as I have tried at least 1 flash from 3 of the tuners on this list. JESTR get my vote for best flash.

This is very good advice

90% of my business is doing custom dyno tunes here at my home dyno www.theshopct.com. Simply put the best opion is get your car custom tuned.

I started to advance the idea of a lower priced mail in product $199 which was a totally new price point at the time (Works and Vishnu charged $595) becuase I felt that a mail in flash had limited value and use and should be priced lower than a custom tune.

Frankly, I suprised myself with the high quantity of cars I started doing back in late 2003 and 2004 and I started to get very good at setting up base maps which required little or no modification to run really good out of the bag.

As time went by the mail in reflashes became better and better, and today I feel that if you have a normal staged package or typical parts set up I can get your mail in tune very very close.

Of course by its very nature a mail in flash is more conservative than a custom tune. However, with the amount of testing and R & D I have done on these maps the mail in tunes are very close to the custom maps now in power and they generally run great.

In fact, I would suggest that a mail in tune from an experinced Evo tuner is better than having some inexperienced local shop who has limited evo hands on experience experiment on your car.

Mail in tunes are greast for people who dont live near a good tuner of dyno and also those who are on a limited mod budget. Also, it makes sense for those who plan to change parts frequently.

IMHO if you want the best possible Customer Service experience you should try Buschur Racing (Buschur Flash) which is not even on the list.

Buschur employs two full time sales guys Jrod and Nick who man the phones all day long during business hours. The levels of customer service are un-matched.

(Yes - I work with Buschur on the R & D of that flash). Jarod and Nick's customer service and tech support are what make the Buschur Flash a very great product.

El.BlueEvo9 May 9, 2007 07:13 AM

^^Agreed . Thanks Jrod and Nick for great customer service.

I had an e-tune from one of the vendors on the list and here is the list of issues I had with said vendor:

1. Very hard to get in contact with and when I did they were very hard to talk to.
2. Getting the tune took several weeks.
3. The car was KNOCKING ITS A$$ OFF

I had mellon look at my logs and he adjusted it. I now have the same power with no knock.

Big thumbs up to mellon, he's a real stand up guy.

Well, I'm not on the poll but that's okay, I'll just keep on doing what I'm doing...eventually my name will be up there with the others :)

thanks to the guys that gave me props, I appreciate that and I'm glad you're back to enjoying your EVO again.

my bad bro, I just picked the only ones I have really heard of at the time. But with all the good things people have to say about you I wish I could go back and add you in.

Fortunately, as per the above definition, I did not break any rules.
Use your head, it is there for a reason.
:)

To go back on topic, I recommend Jester for any type of tuning, E-Flash, Custom Tune, DynoTune.

DsmAwdTurbo May 9, 2007 09:23 AM

John is the only tuner that will touch my evo. Plus the tuner thats ahead of the line right now was taught by a tuner that is also on the list. Kinda funny

DsmAwdTurbo May 9, 2007 09:25 AM

And the most reputable tuner stays off of the drama that this forum brings to the tuning industry. Just had to throw that in there. Here is how it is. Some people have to toot their own horn to get business and some people do it right the first time and the word spreads fast. Then the business comes to them. Then its not necessairy for them to toot anything because their work is what makes them good.

Jestr all the way.

hondafan May 9, 2007 09:26 AM

you can't go wrong with jestr or TTP. i've had jestr and dynoflash, but was more impressed with my jestr flash. made good power, safe AFR, no knock, and felt great. i even got a discount on my custom tune due to his email flash being so good already. TTP is good too. easy to get in touch with.

TURBevO8 May 9, 2007 09:26 AM

I would actually go AMS but voted for Dynoflash. Experience counts.
