this poll seems pointless. unless you've tried all these tuners personally, you can't make a fair vote.

maybe the poll should just ask, "who did you go with for your mail-in flash?"

Jestr for the tune / ecu... Jestr is a top notch engineer that knows the ECU inside and out....Scott (TTP) is a nice and knowledgeable mechanic. Shiv (Vishnu) knows the ECU and mechanicals quite well too...

I think the vote should include a mixture of

1 - How many tunes each tuner has done, what is the engine failure rate - kind of like a EFA (engine failure average)

2 - Track results in MPH in the 1/4 mile with each tuner's work product

3 - How many different parts combinations each tuner has maps to support in varying climates and conditions.

4 - Maybe a peanut gallery of so called "experts" who can assert how each tune "feels" on the road.

Sadly, many polls like these are popularity contests.

It is like asking which brand of oil you prefer Castrol or Vavoline - how many people have tested the oil in a labratory to verify

I like the results of my last flash (after 4 years of daily Evo tuning I have a long line of good results) this is my latest

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=269014

Best bang for the buck you can buy, and with a proven record of reliabilty over the past 4 years with many 2003 evo customers now over 100,000 miles or reliable use

this poll is simply asking who everyone thinks is " the best at tuning"...not a popularity contest. I know all 5 in the poll are awesome tuners, I just wanted to see who everyone thinks is THE best. not trying to rag on anyone here.

I'm curious on this too, I never even heard of him until last night when I was reading one of his threads. Does anyone have any experience with him?? Seems like he knows what he's doing from what I've heard from a few people.

Why don't you actually look at the tuners resume....Only Jestr, Shiv, and Works are/or employ engineers...Jestr gives an amazing tune that is not only great at the 1/4 mile but also great for daily driving...If you look at certain tuners approach (or maps) they are prone to all sorts of issues (IMHO).

IMHO I would look for the following:
(1) No block tuning
(2) Boost limits set
(3) Clean and safe AFRs and timing
(4) Different Fuel and Timing maps for High / Low (Knock)
(5) Willingness to address your questions in a professional and polite manner
(6) Willingness to tweak based upon your logs
(7) Accessibility...

Good points

I like the suggestion to look at the tuner's resume

Speaking for myself, I have a Doctorate degree. (Not that it takes an advanced degree to learn how to tune Evos). I have been racing and winning with turbo charged AWD 4 cyl cars since 2001 and I have a huge room filled with dozens of throphies to attest. My customers have won many races as well. I have written several feature articles in major car magzines and also my cars and customers car have appeared in many magazines as feature vehicles.

I have sponsorship relationships with many major vendors - e.g. Buschur, Exedy, AEM, Shep Trans, etc which afford me tremendous access to information and resources other tuners to do not have

I have set many records with my Evo and continue to participate in competative motorsports.

In addition, and perhaps more importantly, I invest both financialy (vendor fess) and time wise in this forum by answering tech questions and providing helpful information - since day one. I have thousands of posts on here participating as you the fellow members do and I mainatin a dedicated tech forum - Dyno Flash - vendor section to provide tech and customer support here.

I have traveled more than any other tuner and tuned more evos than prob most of the other tuners combined. This gives me a huge library of base calibrations to use to support a huge range of modification and location variables.

To give my own position on some of your items suggested :

1) No block tuning - Block tuning can be very effective. I utilized this method several years ago when I was flashing on a much more primative HEX editor which did not allow for as much precision as the current tuning applications afford. I not longer utilize the block method in any of my tuning calibrations (for well over a year)

(2) Boost limits set - setting a boost limit usualy winds up with a frustrated customer when they go to the track on race fuel and try to run high boost levels. Most of my pump gas maps will work very well on race gas at up to 30 psi (stock turbo spike). Customers are suggested to watch the boost guage and not over boost - or get a ebc with overboost warning cut off. I will provide a lower boost limit to any customer upon request - no problem. I stopped putting one in after a lot of customers would run into the limit when they went racing.

(3) Clean and safe AFRs and timing - I have posted many thousands of dyno sheets which show my tuning methods and results which is more than I can say for any other tuners - details - www.dynoflash.com - you can see them all there and draw you own conclusions

(4) Different Fuel and Timing maps for High / Low (Knock) This is NOT needed - BUT I have been doing this also for a year now as I found most customers wanted this additional protection.

(5) Willingness to address your questions in a professional and polite manner - anyone who has any questions can post them on the Dyno Flash vendor section for a quick response - usually within an hour or two. 99% of the time most questions have been already addresed and answered on the Dyno Flash tech section and a simple search will get you the answer you want - otherwise making a post in the Dyno Flash section or trying to calll me during normal business hours

(6) Willingness to tweak based upon your logs - I do this for free on an unlimitoued basis

(7) Accessibility...[ I try to be as accessable as I can. Obviosuly, with more tuning and more customers - particularly custom tuning appointments on the dyno which I do every day its hard to answer questions and tune a car at the same time. This is whi I pay for and support the tech forum here on Evo M so members can ask questions and get advice 24/7.
