damn.. is there a way to build one of these in the US out of a mirage??

Sirnixalot Jan 1, 2012 08:42 AM

You can but you will either need to either find a rear cut to get the diff, rear subframe, gas tank etc. Or you can always just fuel cell it and weld up what ever mounts you needed to for which ever rear diff you chose (could use an eclipse which would end up easier to mach the final drive ratio to the transmission)

In my opinion its way too much work when you can buy a 1G dump the same money in it and rape more face.

You can also use the rear end out of a 1G, it's not terribly hard to do. If you find a 3 rear end though it's mostly bolt on to install the AWD system and 4G63 swaps are very common for 4th gen Mirages as they're extremely simple. I'm building a IV out of a 5th gen Mirage myself.

very nice ride

It already looks like i have to take out the throttle body and do some more filing on the throttle blade as it isn't closing all the way (lowest tps percentage i can get is 10%). DIY has it's draw backs lol

Blipping the throttle the car comes out of vacuum quick. I don't think lag will be an issue at all :D

Just idling the water temps are pretty solid at 190-195 which i am happy with. We will see what they are at speed etc later.

So for some odd reason my car eats walbro's.

I put back in my stock pump and all is well. 12psi to the world!

Open dump wastegates are so freakin cool. I wasn't sold on the idea before but i sure as **** am now. NO spike, 12psi solid as a rock.

Finished the exhaust but i still have a leak up front somewhere that i think may be the V bands. Need to tighten them up and check the O2 to turbo bolts haven't loosened. The car is MUCH quieter now but that is still relative because of the leak. Once i get the car up on a lift i will drop the exhaust and paint the welds with the DEI header paint i have

Tomorrow it gets a wash!

Fan Controller

1 Attachment(s)
I thought you might like to know that a Billon VFC will control the fans great with the Evo 8 ECU mod. It wires into pin 63 and works off the factory wtare temp sensor. It runs a little on the cool side compaired to my Defi water temp, but it funtions great.

That's good to know :)

I have far larger fish to fry unfortunately.

Rod bearing #3 spun and it appears i was not careful enough with the ring installation on the same cylinder. The oil control ring went in bad and part of it broke up and did some light marking on the cylinder.

I said fook it and have ordered, manley h beams, wiseco 9.5:1 HD's, new bearings and found a stock Evo8 crank.

I am waiting on a friend to transport a cherry picker to my moms house where the car is so i can drop the block out of the car and bring it to the machine shop for a light hone.

Was burning tons of oil

HOPEFULLY it will be back up and running this weekend.

I figured out my fuel pressure issue as well. The beeny summit fuel filter was clogging up very quickly so i have a fuelab filter on the way as well.

Hopefully the Evo X 20g bastard turbo i have will keep similar response on the 1 point higher CR 2.0L

nice ride

Thanks :)

Welp my parts arrived and i got the motor out. I still need to pull the timing pulleys and head studs out. I will do that tomorrow on lunch and deliver the block to the machinist with the pistons and hopefully the clearance will still be in spec after the light hone.

Evo 8 280* 10.2mm lift exhaust cam installed. I am locating a stock evo 8 cam gear so i can badger one of my stock ones and drill the later evo hole then transfer that hole to my HKS cam gears so that i won't have to physically count the 10 teeth and just time everything up normally. I really need to get a set of MAP Evo 8 replacement valve springs at some point.

The new push lock oil drain, if only the hose were black sigh

Oil cooler thermostats, the shiny one is HKS and the dull one is the Evo 8 OEM one

Installed :)

Wiseco flat tops! I figured out how they get their 10.5:1 advertised CR. When used in the 4g64 block with the dsm 4g63 head they are 10.5:1. As a drop in for the later Evo's they are 10:1 and in my application they are 9.5:1.

Where does the flash pin (Evo 8 ecu pin 79) get wired in?

Sirnixalot Jan 26, 2012 06:13 AM

you wire that to the diagnostic port (obviously there is no ODB2, its a white/almost see through colored plug) that is by the fuse box by the gas pedal. I think i wired it up to the pink wire but then i had to move that pin as the tactrix cable had its pin in a different location.

Take the tactrix cable and plug it into the diagnostic port and see where the small black wire goes and just move the pin in the factory harness to match up.

I pretty much just cut that plug away from the stock harness and wired just that pin up to the ecu so i can keep all the plugs in the same place.

Sorry....I had a big slap my hand to my forehead moment. Evo III OBD I connector doesn't matter. I just ran the flash pin to the glovebox where I mounted the OBD II plug. I'll just snip the OBD I connector and make a single port plug. Thanks. How is the rebuild going? I am going to be ripping off my head next week for a blown head gasket. New cams, springs, and a general head refresh. I still need to post photos.....

Sirnixalot Jan 26, 2012 02:59 PM

I was hoping that made sense lol

I just picked up the new to me block, going to get the Evo 8 crank later on. The plan was to wash and prep the block tonight but work got in the way so hopefully i can take care of that tomorrow evening.

Plan is to have the motor in this weekend.

Head gasket job isn't too bad on these with the motor in the car.

When you are back on the road though keep the boost under 19psi as the ring land between the top and middle ring on the Evo3 pistons are more fragile than the 2g's. (ask me how i know ;) )

Matter of fact if you can afford it i would just do some a drop in set of forged goods while you have the head off (its just a matter of dropping the xfer case and oil pan as well)

I was thinking about doing that, but I wasn't sure how the rings would seat without homing the block.
