evo 2.4 LR build
evo 2.4 LR build
Ok here's the story:
I am new to evo's, always had dsms which are fun, however anything but reliable unless you can find one that wasn't abused (good luck) and even then you have to replace every maintenance item you can find for a semblance of reliability. I still daily my 91' gsx and I have a project 92 laser awd that I expect big things from.
So anyways back to the evo. I wasnt really even looking for one but a good friend of mine works at a dodge stealership and a friend of his there had bought this evo from the junkyard he worked at in PA. It's a salvage title car but all the body numbers match up so it wasnt a collision and its obvious that it was a vandalism car. the exterior is keyed and the interior sliced. Apparently he looked into it and there was a doestic case involving a upset girlfriend or wife who did the damage. Its all cosmetic and really not bad at all, It was just enough to make the insurance company total the car. (I would have bought a shovel and visited a remote field if it were me lol)
So he got the car and it was all stock and he put some decent money into the car and having only put about 3000 miles on it he spun three main bearings due to (I think) over rev and losing oil at the pickup. before this the car made 340 at the wheels tuned by buschur on the stock 8 turbo on pump. Clutch was shot also since it was a shi**y stocker. He had it sitting in his garage when he brought it back from PA and didnt really have the desire to fix it so had it for sale. Word got to me and I ended up getting the cash together and we had AAA deliver it out to my place where some friends and I are using a old horse riding arena for storing/working on our cars. Ended up costing me 7000. The cassis and everyting oem hace 33000 miles total on it. The car came with a decent list of aftermarket parts.
AEM series one ems with the wideband controller and wideband
AEM 5 bar map
IAT sensor
Buschur racing upper and lower IC piping
Large frontmount (unsure as to the manufactire)
Full Works adjustable suspension
Perrin Fuel Rail + 750cc injectors
aeromotive fpr, fuel rail adapter and aem electric fuel pressure sensor
Greddy bov (the big one, rs I think)
Spare cylinder head (verrry nicely ported)
Tomei 260/260 cams and tomei camgears
DNP coated stock replacement manifold tapped for EGT
Buschur o2 Housing
3 inch stainless turboback (unsure of brand)
Brian Crower dual valvesprings and titanium retainers
Theres more there but thats what I can remember off the top of my head.
So basically knowing the clutch and engine were bad I fiured a 2.4 longrod motor would be great as this car will be a weekend/daily/trip car. So what I'm building to drop in it is:
2.4 4g64 Long rod motor 87mm bore
-Stock crank
-Manley 156mm Hbeam rods
-Manley stroker style 87mm pistons
-ACL main/rod bearings
-New OEM oil pump
-New OEM water pump
-New OEM timing components
-ARP main/head studs
-MAP 87mm MLS headgasket
MAP head rebuild (using my already nicely ported head)
-Stock sized stainless valves
-Brian Crower dual valvesprings w/ Ti retainers
-Gsc S2 camshafts
-Tomei Cam gears
Hx40 turbo
-T3 BEP .70ar housing
-Custom short runner stainless header
-Custom stainless 3inch o2 housing
Competition 6 puck sprung ceramic stage 4 clutch
Thats the basic idea as far as the build, right now im about halfway with parts and such. Hopefully Ill be giving it back to Buschur to tune soon and hopefully Ill get around 400-450 at the wheels from it on pump.

Your build looks alot like what I am in the process of picking the parts for. I want to base mine around the bbk-b and the oh so great 91 octane fuel. I intend to shoot for 26+ psi as that is what I was reccomended to shoot for. Good luck with the build, I am sure it will be a monster on the street.
Just remember the OEM waterpump will have to be modified to cover 2 water jackets, or you can use a waterpump spacer... I would opt for a modified waterpump from English Racing...
