I don't know if this helps, but starting at about 13:24 they show how Mitsubishi installs them. It says they use special rivets.

yep we had a supplier do an analysis about 4 weeks ago- the rivets are like nothing they could get, so had to go with the $1.20 mitsu ones.

Time to get serious on the weight reduction while the cage is going in.

Adam and his team took out over 15kg of metal today, more to come.

Rear firewall removed and some of the area around the headlights. Rear parcel shelf was removed but a lip as we will have to put in a fire break still for racing regulations.

front supports that were tacked in removed for further weight reduction.

patches have been left from being hole sawed for the gusseting for the cage and instead of full removal to maintain some structual integrity.

Great to see an Aussie doing such a big build. to you giving so much info out on this thread. I assume your aiming at wtac 2013, hopefully you will be up and running by then, it's good that it has been put back to October. It's interesting to see you using so many US parts suppliers/builders, even taking shipping and taxes into account i've found there is good savings to be made and the skills and ideas coming out of the USA and the use of the internet, for tuning and such, are hard to pass up. I'll keep an eye out at wtac and give a cheers as you go by, do you think you will drive or get a pro in, aka Nemo? Following with interest.

More weight reduction pictures

Yes I've used alot of USA suppliers and parts. I'm also using parts from Japan, United Kingdom, Canada whereever I can get what I want. This build is about building the best I can afford.
Sometimes there is more value in the States but I mainly go to people who I think can do the best job at that price.
Yes aiming for WTAC in October and need to get testing time in the car.
I am sharing what I can although some things wil be kept secret till race day to maintain an edge and advantage.

I plan to drive myself in Pro Am , money dependant. I'm a blue collar worker not a business owner so putting a pro drive in the car while yielding what I think would be a possible top 5 finish, kind of defeats the purpose of me spending two years building this car.

I've won if I just make the grid at WTAC with what I've been through, stolen parts, crashes the lot. It's been quite stressful at times.

Well Collin at Toxic fab received something for him to start playing with, hope to order a 2nd for back up before October, Borg Warner EFR 8374 EWG .105. Be interesting to see how this develops- because of aero we need to run the wastegates into the exhaust carbon doesn't like dumps too much, so Collin has his work cut out for him.
