Well been holding off on this for a while.
Well, I first purchased the car with honest intentions back in august 2010.
Sweet innocent, I was it's first owner outside Japan JDM evo 8.

I had always been more a V8 person before and this was my first serious japanese performance car. My previous ride was a HSV Maloo.

Well went through a few things with the car including tripping from one end of the country in wollongong to perth, over 4000km in three days.

In this guise the car had xyz coil overs, gruppe m intake, xforce turbo back exhaust and a blitz dual sbc boost controller.

Upon reaching Perth tbone!

6 months later the car was back on the road and by this stage i was not happy with the repairs, one day before going back into the shop for rectification, skippy the kangaroo decided to end his life on the evo.

So another 6 months in the panel shop....
this was the results afterwards

By this stage I was already unhappy with the car. Sorry but it's not designed for the street. A little thing happened in between all this , an event call World Time attack and where i got to meet Richard Raeder and the boys from Sierra Sierra. A seed was sown.

Also another conversation with a fellow Aussie , Jeff Denmeade, who assaulted pikes peak and took out the 4wd time attack class. I mentioned that I would love to see pikes peak and drive the road. He said to me why don't you race it? Build a car, get experience and qualify for an international invitation?
The seed was not just sown, it was watered and growing.

Welcome to SUSHI racing....

Well the inevitable question when you start these threads and people start to see the money is..... what do you do for work?

So I'll answer that now, I'm a rigger, I build remote mine sites power stations refineries, dams you name it I build it.

I spend long periods away from home and work very hard and very long hours, hence being able to afford this build.

I'm rather specialised in that while I hook steel and can run crews or I am quite good at installing pipe the majority of my work tends to be heavy lifts and large crane set ups.

Yeah had to be done, most dramas are over, down to seriouis business now just chasing up missing parts, assembly, crying over motec prices, the usual stuff.

So during this 2.5 year adventure the nature of what I was building changed....alot.

First off it was designed to have a bolt in cage, be road registered and be in the Clubsprint class for WTAC.

Pretty much like some of these cars.

Basically the sort of thing a weekend warrior owned or something the serious track day car owner has but still had street registered. Also have to operate on a street tyre like the AD08 yokohama.

Well this was never going to work, I want to eventually take the car to Pikes Peak, trying to build something that is compromised is never going to work. So after much wasted money and wrong directions taken (which I will list as I go on), I decided on my current objective.....

A full blown track car , designed to minimalise weight, Have high horsepower and reliability (well as much as you can), larger rolling stock with very trick suspension and a massive amount of money and RnD spent into aero.

I'm not one of the big boys but the goal here is to build a car that won't look out of place in any serious time attack teams garage. I'm keen to prove with sacrifice it can be done.

But how do you turn this...

Into this?

MOTOR AND DRIVELINE.

Well I started out a bit back the front to other people. Ie I built my driveline before my motor.

Reasoning behind this? Well everything I have purchased for the car is designed to fitted in stages or, in one foul swoop.

When starting out questioning what driveline to run I have to say I was disturbed at switching to a 5 speed. Why? Well originally this was designed to still be a road car.

So while researching I came in contact over the interent with John Shepherd of sheptrans (http://sheptrans.com/products/evo-4-9/). John was always extremely helpful and full of advice.

In the end I settled on switching out the AYC (a must) and replacing it with an RS rear. I'm a but **** so I went with an OS GIKEN LSD centre in it, brand new. Bit better than the Cusco but a much better product.

While at this stage I wasn't preparing for massive KW/horsepower I wanted a driveline that could handle such.

So John also sourced me Driveshaft shop axles stage 5 rear stage 3 front. I purchased the complete axles with all the boots and bangs.
http://www.driveshaftshop.com/import...mitsubishi?p=3

I purchased a 2nd hand transfer case for John to rebuild into a stage 3 with a wavetrac centre.

As to the gearbox John was developing a six speed gear variant with a longer final drive. I've always dreamed of taking the car to Bathurst so a 6 speed made more sense. Mine was one of the first produced in the limited run John did over 18 months ago.
Info can be found here
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...rans-6spd.html

This my gearset before john completed assembly.

The only problem I have now is it won't handle the power I am intending to run through it. John projected roughly 550-650hp and 450-550tq.

Not sure if whether to keep the box for assembly now or just sell it and save for a dogbox. I would really like to get a maktrak or Hollinger dogbox (love to keep a six speed for longer straights on some tracks) somewhere down the line anyway. But the flipside is using the box and limiting the power on the tune until the car is run in and, I have a handle on it and I am comfortable with it.

Well the motor...Everyone always wants to know about the motor....

When intially researching the motor I pumped alot of questions at one David Buschur ( http://www.buschurracing.com/ ). He was my my original choice to build the motor. I decided on the 4G63 platform not a 4G64 with a 100mm crank. So a 2.3L

David as rough and as straight as he speaks is not a bad bloke at all and extremely helpful. We exchanged alot of emails and were getting close to building...

Then along came Lucas Gudagni of CARZ performance( http://www.carzcustom.com/ ). Lucas threw a spanner in the works with advertising Winberg cranks. Anyone who has watched motorsport in the USA would be familiar with them and their high end product.

The weight saving on a Winberg crank really got me thinking more on rotational mass and, basically reducing it as much as possible not only in the motor but the entire driveline.

David agreed to run the Winberg crank instead of a manley one which is much heavier and has a lower rpm spin chance of critical failure.

But i was already thinking more on reducing the rotation mass and had previously had problems in V8's with manley and their products. The manley I beams come in over 100gms a rod more than a Carrillo H beam pro rod. So I decided to run them and a CP piston 10.1:1supplied by Lucas.

An evolutionm member was selling a 2nd hand virgin bore block and I was in business, but David wasn't interested unfortunetly in building a motor with what he called mismatched parts.

During this time I had also been in heavy email warfare with Chad Block of CBRD ( http://www.cbrdspeedfactory.com/ ). Chad was more than willing to take on the build and Lucas of CARZ was extremely helpful with advice on the build too.

The block assembled and O ringed (essential for high boost).

Crank

Head.

So the motor was fully assembled at CBRD- we added GSC S2 cams, supertech inconel exhauist valves, supertech intake valves, billet locks, arp main and head studs and bolts, and a few other bits and pieces. Every bolt was brand new and even the oil pump cover was brand new.

So I decided to get a bit of flare for the motor, and decided on an airbrushed valve cover and billet plate to top it off.

I contacted Chrisotpher Smith of Space City ( http://www.spacecityairbrush.com/ )airbrush after viewing his online portfolio.

Well got my first bad experience off evolutionm with this valve cover purchase
. One big **** crack Chris found while doing the prep work.

So I purchased another two justincase one was bad. Here is the final product in Chris's workshop.

I was pretty happy with that and sent it off to CBRD to complete the finished motor as a complete drop in.

As I was still looking at the street for occasional use I had Collin at toxic fab make me up a trick manifold to fit under the standard exhaust shield.

Collin also fabbed up me a special custom 625 inconel O2 and Titanium front pipe.

So with what I was going to run in terms of Turbo (BBK-BB-B). Here was the finished results with an AMS moroso wet sump pan. Cheers Chad and CBRD , Lucas at CARZ and Collin at Toxicfab!

Well while the motor was being built another WTAC was approaching in 2012, clubsprint was still the goal at this stage.
So I pushed and pushed with the workshop it was at to get it stripped in preparation with the motor and all the parts heading to Australia for fitment. I was meant to be piggy backing on freight with their Dyno. Their dyno didn't turn up, hence neither did my motor and parts.
my car went from this ...

to this...

But without parts turning up and turning up to build with track time before the event was running out.

CHANGE IN DIRECTION!!!!

A big change was made, never was this going to be a road car again. All track, weld in cage no compromise, a true Time Attack weapon. I really decided to make this a car a top driver like Tarzan Yamada or Nob could jump into.
So WTAC came and went and me without out a ready car.

So anyway slowly but surely the car was stripped and parts sold to finance the build. There is no turning back when you strip completely.

Well Troy Patterson at Pro Speed Racing ( http://www.prospeedracing.com.au/ )heard about the car and me needing to ship and kindly helped me out shipping all my stuff from CBRD last november. Organised everything for me , it was over half a 20ft container.

Meanwhile I was slowly but surely falling out with the workshop the car was housed at. They were very reluctant to do work and felt I had no plan.
The moment I was really pissed was when I came in and found this...

That's one of my brand new subframes from Racefab in New Zealand thrown in the back of my car. ... Wih the parts of about 5 other cars, empty coffee cups , red bull bottles and coke cans.
How could I trust them to build my racecar when they already treated it like this? Like a rubbish dump?

So as you do we had a big fight, a real good fight. I won't go into details but it wasn't pretty and I'm missing a fair hunk of cash and a fair few parts from the strip down.

So last week the car was moved, thanks to two great friends we got her going and you can see the rotissiere was a ***** up, the shell had to be strapped on.

It's now at AGI ( http://www.agi-precision.com.au/ ) which is owned and run by Adam Gotch who is ex Williams F1 team mechanic. Right next to SUSHI at the moment is their formula 3 race car.
Adam and his team will be welding in the Custom Cages FIA compliant chrome moly cage for me.

Is that the block you bought from me back in 2011? If so I'm very happy it's going into such an awesome build!

I will always support Collin. Top first class work and i work with welders day in day out. Collin never baulks at a challenge and loves welding exotics. He will be a big part of this build in the future and I'm proud to call him a sponsor.
