Red TME "race" car build in the UK
Hi all,
It's been a while since my last update and tonight has been a bit of a milestone so thought I'd catch up a bit.
Ok where to start.
I've been fairly slack recently, just doing little odd bits here and there like installing valve train bits etc.

I also stripped off the suspension arms so a mate of mine could install the polybushes with a press at his work. Had an absolute mare with the rear off side! Basically 1st I broke off the ball joints expecting them to have a spanner recess but didn't and they wouldn't reseat to get the nuts the rest of the way out. Then I had to take off the fuel filler neck to get a bolt out! I'll show you why they rust in a sec. Then my friend sent me pics showing 1 of the arms was ****ed!!!

Mitsi are Insistent the car has had the recall work done so won't give me a new one so I now need new ones of those! Hopefully the rest of the arms will be with me this week to reinstall.
Bushes I could do myself like the arb ones are done. A quick old vs new

Oh and I mentioned about filler necks rusting. Is it any surprise with a guard around it that does nothing but fill with mud and crap!?

In other news, I started to sand off the underside ready for underseal and it looks in pretty good nick so high 5 on that.
I've made an Ali blank where my stereo was to mount my gauges. I just need to get the holes cut as my hole saw wasn't man enough as it's a cheapo set I found in my dad's shed.
Also got a relocation kit and little battery from Evogb. Might try and fit this tomorrow if I can find 4 matching nuts and bolts.
The gearbox was looking rather manky so gave that a good wire brush. Think I'll paint that too before it goes back in.

My harnesses rocked up today courtesy of trs. Got 6 point for the drivers side and a 4 for the passenger (for ease of the mrs on the road). They look top notch but I'm a little confused as to why they sent mounting eyes but not nuts for them or spreader plates???

Inspired by my harnesses turning up and also due to the fact I borrowed a tensioner tool from my father in law I decided to finish the engine at last!

Nothing ever goes to plan for me !!!

But got there in the end!!!

A few bits need a tidy and a lick of paint still but at least it's a big step in the right direction.
So still lots to do and only a week n a half to do it if I'm going to meet the original dead line. If I'm honest I don't think I will but it should be ready for the start of the season.

Hi all,
Thought I'd just give a quick update on where I'm at.
Work has been held up massively by the only place in the area to be affected by flooding was my shed!!!!

I have managed to get a bit done tho.
Got the arms all back with poly bushes fitted (less the broken 1 which should hopefully turn up today)

Also got the built engine into the shed ready to start adding ancillaries.

And got the cleaned up and painted box on.

And done some electrical bits.
Battery relocation. (Bit scruffy ATM but it'll work)

And then got the cut off switch mounted.

That's pretty much where I got to last night. Things holding me up still are;
Live wire isn't long enough to go from engine bay to cut off
One of the rear arb bush clamps won't push up
Waiting in new rear arm
And need a hand to get the engine in without breaking anything

Thanks very much.
I know this build is very different to the massive turbo, high horsepower builds with seemingly no budget, that you see on here. But I thought I'd show my journey of a normal guy putting his blood sweat and tears into something he loves and I'll hopefully get to see the true fruits of my labour when I come to race.

Both will give you better spool and better response due to the titanium turbine. Peak power won't change if it's a 16G but you will gain some low~mid due to the faster spool and therefore earlier torque.
It will be a fraction less peak power if the 15G but you will have more low~mid.
I fitted an RS 16G to my TME several months ago.
Enough winging about my bad career choice tho.
Updates have ground to a halt due to me actually being over the pond in the US at the mo on my honeymoon. Actually, that's a lie, I'm currently in canada visiting the niagra falls (what a beautiful place!). Got a 10 hr drive back into the US tomorrow tho as we're off to North Conway next.
Look forward to big updates in 2 weeks when I get home!
Bit of news from today.
After getting home from our honeymoon to the states yesterday, i was too knackered to go outside and do anything to the car. That is despite having big plans on the plane home to have it running by Sunday easily!
Anyhow, after a quick visit to my good friend and sponsor Ross W of rossport, to get some final bits and bobs, a few mates came round and we got cracking.
And after a bit of swearing, IT 'S IN!!!!

Most of it has now been plugged and plumbed in. Just need to fit the down pipe with shiny new silenced decat, connect wideband and fill it up with fluids and it should be ready to start! Look forward to that tomorrow or tues hopefully!!!

Hi everyone,
I was hoping tonight would contain something along the lines of "it's alive "... But sadly not.
I got the final few bits a bobs today whilst on my lunch break, ready for the big moment tonight. Drive home with a big smile on my face thinking I'd see the car fire into action in a few hours.
Got home, 1st job was to fill with coolant as I hadn't realised that I used my last lot a while ago. Began filling the rad until it was almost full, then it happened. Sounded like someone had turned a tap on under the engine !

On inspection it was coming from behind the cam belt cover. I knew almost straight away where it was coming from.
When I was building the engine, the water pump gasket didn't completely go around the edge of the pump. Being a genuine mitsi part I though weird but must somehow work. No, it didn't work.
After a panic email to Ross, he confirmed the gasket is in fact for an Evo 8. Luckily he's got a 6 one in stock so should be with me on fri.
Very annoying but never mind. Just not looking forward to trying to put it all back together and time it up in the car!
In other news I decided I'd probably need a way of quieting down the exhaust, as I've only scraped thro a few sound tests, so bought a silenced decat from Ross. Upon getting it home I noticed a bit of a fail in that it has no boss for a wideband sensor. So off that went to have 1 welded in. Another job done!

Also got my Rossport graphics. Can't wait to get these fitted. I keep looking at pics of Ross's old silver car in red and getting bodywork/aero ideas but that will have to wait!

Just wana thank Ross again (I may as well make a shrine) for being so helpful and patient with me.
