I figured i might as well start a build thread one of these since i can't leave **** alone, Im Josh from Whalen's Speed R&D out of Paw Paw, MI. Just a young kid trying to make a name for himself and build some badass cars!
Take it back a little, 18 years old, still in high school and working to buy my first car, i came across a black 2G DSM awd out of Jenison, MI and had to have it, not knowing a thing about the 4G Engine but that wasn't going to stop me.
I don't have any pictures of the car from the 2 years before this but after finding some bearing material in the pan one day after school it all started.
A good ol stupid simple 2.3 stroker, stock port head with Kiggly goodies and a set of Kelford 276HL's, Evo 3 IM with our T4 twin scroll manifold, Borg Warner S360, wired on an Evo 8 ECU, 28psi on the gates running pump gas the car made 577awhp and 490ft-lbs.
After doing some damage with it, it was time for a change. Come 5am one saturday morning, my buddy Joe and I hopped on a plane in Detroit headed for Jacksonville, FL to pick up the next chapter. The begging of the WHTDEVL. An 03 wicked white Evo 8 had always been a dream of mine so i made it happen.
Drove this all the way back to Southwest Michigan over the weekend and it didnt take long before i had to start playing with it. Car had previously made 504awhp and 378ft-lbs on pump @33psi. Not too long after owning the car it was time to begin, Walbro 450 and a set of FIC 2150's along with E85 and the development of our true flex fuel speed density rom on the stock ecu was put to the test. Ended up at 588awhp and 490ft-lbs @32psi on the FP Black
Things have slowed down a bit for now as I'm just enjoying it and focusing on a couple other things at the moment but for sure this is just the beginning, our WSRD cylinder head test is soon to get a start. This winter will be when the real fun begins and for what's to come.. I need a Borg Warner back in my life and what better way than to drop the new EFR 9174 on one of our top mount manifold's and see what we can do with it!
Yeah super clean car, and a lot of custom fabbed stuff on the car... George is a great guy, and I miss working with him... I remember when I sold him the front lip, and modified a stock throttle body gasket when he originally ported the intake mani... Great car!
Been a long couple of months at the shop with customer cars and all that good stuff, slowly putting in work and getting the car back together over the winter.
Building the engine, simple Manley I Beam, CP Pitson 2.0
Making some aluminum shavings, awesome when they fall in your shoe..
Competition Clutch triple disk with the pull to push conversion going back in the car
Here we are screwing around seeing how much work itd take to get a 285/30 to fit on the rpf1's. These ended up going back onto John's blue evo.
and finally the whtdevl has a heart again
As it sits for the time being, hopefully only for a couple days now, just waiting on a few parts and a stock exhaust manifold to fire it back up and let her eat! couple of changes since last year but the car no longer has the ported Skunk2 intake manifold, my modded stock intake manifold is now on the car. The FP Black stayed as well since it didnt end up selling, guess the efr will have to wait. I'm sure 45lbs on the black will do just fine. well see whats in store for the car this year, hopefully some big things around august..
