rrstlevo's dd project...

From the beginning to where I am now -

Day 1 10/2011:

With 110k on it - and SRS light and SES light...

So a LF impact sensor...

SES was on because there was no cat and no tune to turn the light off.

The first part I bought for the car was the Gruppe S 52mm. The guages were just sitting in the cubby hole...

And yes I covered the long dash trim piece in 3M carbon fiber wrap.

As well as the fading sides of the wing

O my jeez

better.....

First order from STM for the Evo...

Sick of this thing coming up everytime I got on the highway

Couldn't stand this heavy, faded, ugly C-West bumper

Bought some cheapish fiberglass IX style bumper

Well that's hideous - and body shop wants too much to fix & pain this shotty bumper.

Better way to go with the bumper...OEM

Ehh - have to fix those some day

PlastiDip is the new thing to do...at least two years ago it was...

You can see above the wheel, on the fender, where the aluminum actually started to rip. the C-West bumper was held on with one bolt on each side and was so heavy that it tore the fender. Nothin too terrible but WE car guys notice it.

And if you didn't notice I pulled the headlights apart and PlastiDipped the inside of them black...hate that USDM chrome.

Decent...but I don't know the last time they were replaced.

These are ugly too...

This timing belt had some miles... replaced that, the water pump, pulleys and hydraulic tensioner.

6/12

Glamour Shots

I think this was the engine at that point

Work parking lot was full

ooo

9/13

F this faded brake dust caked on dip...who paints their wheels white....

New rubber needed....

New axle needed.....

New tails needed.....

New paint job needed....

Sold the IX turbo......

Catch Can...

Wut the...double gasketed exh mani lol

Manley Springs

New stem seals

Stock retainers - JEZUS DONT EVER USE OEM RETAINERS WITH THESE SPRINGS! THE OEM SPRINGS ARE BEEHIVE AND THESE MANLEYS ARE NOT....COMMON SENSE SAYS DONT GO CHEAP...BUY TITANIUM ONES THAT FIT AND DONT LISTEN TO OTHER PEOPLE SAYING THE OEM ONES WILL WORK...I FIND OUT IN ABOUT 700 MILES THEY DONT WORK....

EF4 TURBO!

Paint these stockers black until I can buy some nice, new wheels

ooo

Forgot just the tip...

GSC S2's!

ooo new down pipe with electric cut out!

Driving down the highway, cruising, a major misfire began...the Evo started to sound like a Subaru .

Maybe just a spark plug or a coil or an injector. Swapped plugs misfire didn't move...swapped coils...nope...tested injector nope.... when starting I can hear low compression.... F

This is how I found it...

#3 retainer shattered. Dropped an exhaust valve which got bent and stuck in the head

Torn down...again

Mess

145k

lol

off to Curt Brown...

waiting...

cleaned 5 pounds of axle grease off this...

new oil cooler

waiting...

sending off to ShepTrans...

Cleaning...

Took it apart to clean it....oops

Starting a wire tuck...

Porting the OFH since im using GSC's balance shaft elim kit

Using a RP oil filter...influenced bu golgo13's oil filter testing

Bah

This mini ebay batt is a champ!

waiting...

organizing...ish...

new one...

torque specs...

new rubber

This is where I'm at as of today... the engine block, head, manifolds and throttle body should all be here this weekend. The trans and tcase...unknown...

Looking forward to the tranny being buit too. 4th & 5th syncro's were very worn. They have the transfer case as well - no issues with it but it does have 145k on it and its out already.

Need it to be the right temps around here so we can paint it...maybe in a month or so... I bought the paint from dipyourcar.com they gave me like $30-35 worth of points for in store credit... so I bought some prep spray and sealer with those points.

Someone PM'd me about which axle I used. Oreilly Auto Parts MasterPro Select CV with a lifetime warranty. Same length, same splines, boots are high quality. Been running hard on it with no problems. I still have the OEM one that has a busted boot and exploded internals just in case. There is a local axle shop that will rebuild it but they wanted $100. Oreilly was $80. OEM list is $650...
