All the preparation paid off, we had an epic blast on 800km of roads than can only be described as heaven! The car performed faultlessly and we had some adventures. About 100km in we noticed a slight knock start to develop from the front right which turned out to be a loose wheel but we torqued the nuts up and off we went again! The start of the second day saw the best roads and in our rush to catch up with everyone after starting last to film the departure with a drone we missed a stop and blew past the entire field without even realising it! - (im blaming my hungover co-pilot for that one ). Anyway the middle of the second day saw us take part in some real fun convoys and the Evo was happily jumping and shooting flames like a rally car should! The last drama happened when we hit a mid sized bird right in the middle of the windscreen at 100mph. Fortunately the windshield held and no damage was done...next up is a car meet at the end of the month where a few of us will get our unwashed cars together then I'll begin to desticker the car. I may keep the stripes a while longer but the event stickers have to go and the plastidip is destroyed by brake dust already so that'll go too.
Been a while since I updated this, thought I'd do so as I have a moment.
As you can see the stickers have come off...
..and yet I became haunted by how cool I thought the wheels looked in white. As part of the intention to "rally" the car up again at a later date I bought a set of Evo X Enkei with the intention of painting them white for extra motorsportyness!
..then I saw on Facebook Marketplace someone had a set of Speedline Turini 2120 Tarmac rally wheels in 18 inch with the correct offset and a set of tarmac spec semi slicks no less! They were procured, ceramic coated with Gyeon Rim and fitted after alot of back and forth negotiating how to get them from Australia to New Zealand without getting trashed.
January/February is time for the annual service (regardless of KM, which in this case is about 2,000km since the last one and 6,000km since all the fluids were done 2 years ago when I bought it).
The following items were serviced:
>AYC hydraulic fluid check (still clean and full so no top up req'd)
>AYC diff clutch bath change: Mitsubishi ATF SPIII
>Diff oil change: Motul Gear Competition (a small amount of fine metals on the magnet as normal)
>Transfer Case oil change: Mitsubishi Diaqueen LSD oil (same as diff oil, some fine deposits on the magnet but nothing over normal)
>Engine Oil changed and Cusco magnetic drain plug added: Motul 300V (still could be seen through, not black but dark orange/gold)
>Cusco Coilover ride height change to suit the wheels...and here we are as it sits now!
Next up is a "Mitsubishi Motors" banner for the windscreen this weekend and on the 9th Feb a group of us is heading out to Leadfoot festival which is like New Zealands Goodwood Festival of Speed. Here is a cheeky photo of our groups cars after a monthly coffee run I organised recently.
In the interim here's a video of me having some fun on the local roads to me with the above cars following (or trying to)...
