Rough at random when under a load
I have a Mitsubishi Lancer 2002 ES. Finding a Evo is impossible.. I've been cranking on this car for a long time now. I originally bought it for 300. I'm sitting at 1800 now "invested in". I'm not sure where to start with what's been replaced and what's been done. I'll just say this:
2002 Mitsubishi Lancer ES runs like hell when it's hot outside. 2nd gear seems to like to bang out near 6000 "redline" unless I let off "this is sadly a auto trans". On a cold morning this car is a race car, on a hot afternoon in between 70° Fahrenheit to 80° Fahrenheit. Generally restarting the car can fix it for a while. But depending on the temperature outside, It'll go right back to running like hell.. I've traced the issue to hotter weather. I've inspected all the vacuum lines. I'm planning on getting some and just replacing them to be sure.
Whenever the car gets like this, I can only apply 1/3 of the pedal.
I'm getting ready to send the car off after Friday coming up to get a diagnostic done.
I'm tired of constantly cranking on this car. I have a new throttle position sensor coming in the mail. I've been looking for a descent priced transmission speed sensor. The car has an entire new exhaust system from the downpipe all the way to the muffler. As well the O2 sensor for the downstream has been replaced. I haven't replaced the cat at the exhaust manifold as well that O2 sensor. Everything else is new for the exhaust. I haven't been able to use a gas cap. I haven't found a stock one either. Every gas cap I've bought from AutoZone causes the car to break down.. I keep thinking the fuel pump might need to be replaced. Might need to get a new head gasket to.
I'm not sure. But if someone can help me that would be great.
*Also, whenever the car gets like this. if I smash the gas pedal to the floorboard it'll rise up to 2,000 at the nose dive down to 0 practically. You can hear a spitting sound and it'll attempt to pick back up.
But once again restarting the car fixes it for a minute. it's doing better since replacing all spark plugs and checking the gaps

Update
Replaced so much crap.. Gas tank was replaced, full of rust, EGR died, new catalytic converters got hot and fell apart inside causing too much back pressure, I hollowed both out to save on cost to get this thing on the road so I can make money again. Was running on two cylinders, bad ignition coils, would come and go as it wanted. Shop had to identify as I couldn't figure it out.. new fuel injectors.
Literally chasing codes the entire time. I blew everything I had and am at 3290 USD invested into a car I paid 300 for.
I've been chasing codes one fix after the other more keeps coming..
The car began loosing all power recently. I couldn't make it up hills either. Idled way to low.
New codes called for camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor. The car didn't want to start after that. Pinging and popping when attempting to start when the engine actually ignited.
Check engine light came back on. I disconnected the battery over a days worth as I was slowly getting parts and getting a Uber to get parts.
Things aren't going so well for me. I could really use help. I had no choice but to take out a loan with CashNetUsa. The APR is 299.9.
I really need help with this thing so I can hurry up and get back to work and pay off that loan.
The only thing I've been able to research with those sensors is the timing is off. I couldn't find the timing marks as the previous owner never cared to take care of oil leaks. But I sent it off to get a timing change and diagnosis after.
If anyone here is wise enough to be able to feed me any info possible on what's going on that would be great.
I used to manually shift the transmission. 1 gear would make it to 45 originally. It wouldn't even hit 25 in the end.
I've been chasing after the problem on this car and I guess I broke it enough for it to be found.
