I like the concept behind what you're doing. As our cars move towards historics (it pains me to say that), i'm becoming more interested in how people maintain things that tend to wear after the 10-15 year mark, different levels of rust treatment or restoration being one of them. good luck with this project!
Just retire that car for good. Its done. Part out, then crush the shell would be best way. Doesn't matter what car. Supra, gtr, fd, evo 8, evo 9..cars have a life and a death. Time to bury this one.

I think your missing the point, sometimes its the journey not the destination....and content generation . Maybe this thing is destined for the scrap yard, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out. People spend all kinds of money restoring old classics and IMO the evo is deserving of this kind of treatment too. They aren't making any more of em, and even if they wanted to they couldn't because of safety regulations.
Agree, the CT9A chassis is notorious for rust issues to the main structural bits of the chassis. This has been a problem well documented in the UK and other spots that have had them for longer because of the Evo 7.
I bet that chassis is scrapyard material but would be a great surprise if it wasn't!

hm, I do agree, if the proper resources, time and money are invested it could be worth while.

There's still some life in that chassis. At least there won't be much guilt in cutting it up and doing racecar mods.

I’m subbed! Can’t wait to see what you do. I was doing the same thing reviving Neon SRT4s over the last few years, kudos to your evolution revival journey! 💪🏽
Just saw the latest. That rust above muffler is pretty awful. It looks dangerously close to some major suspension pick up points and subframe. It may seem like a death sentence but I see big potential, especially for a small but good YT channel.
This could be an opportunity to really do something unique. I know you have a family and presumably a full time job, limited space etc. I immediately started thinking about chopping this thing up and turning it into Wolverine, albeit with less melodrama and more steel tube. Rally Buggy? Dedicated dirt oval juggernaut? Exocet? (Evocet) Anybody remember this from BaT several months ago? 🥰
Could be a great opportunity to learn or develop metal fab skills and justify buying a lot of tools haha.

Yup, I have a family and full time gig, plus some side jobs. (Side jobs are the only reason i can afford this evo project)
The more i dig, the more i lean towards "Ugly/cheap/unique" evo. Maybe not so far as the example you've shown, but it will probably be something a bit different when all said and done. Leave the exterior rust, but fix rust where it matter. Maybe a retro rusty beater looking 500awhp monster

I watched all three videos, and have some feedback since I have a rusty 9 as well. These three words have gotten me by: scrape, rust converter, fluid film. My engine bay looks exactly like yours, the rust tends to form in the same areas. I am not as mechanically skilled as you, but can confidently say it is a long road ahead. Even basic jobs will be a royal pain as you have experienced already.
Forget about the front LCA bolts coming out like they did on your other car, likely seized.
Endlink nuts probably rusted solid
Rear toe arm area likely in really bad shape
License plate bracket rust will snap off the light holder
Assume any small bolt 12-14mm will snap on you, most recent one for me was trying to remove the clutch inspection cover.
I documented some of my struggles on IG, hopefully we can do our best to keep these cars going. If I was not so attached, I would have jumped ship already too.
