Talking Need opinions on Evo X build

Hey guys, new to the Evo party and thought this would be the best place to talk to some other Evo X owners. So I'm doing everything maintenance-wise to get this car ready for tuning. Right now I've changed plugs, rotors and pads, and all essential fluids like oil, transmission, t-case, rear diff, and AYC. Preventative mods done include an AYC Relocation Kit and PCV oil catch can.
Mods that I'll be getting soon include:
- Some AEM Gauges for my tuner
- Tomei Catback and Test Pipe
- Tomei upper intercooler pipe (really like titanium)
- ETS intake
- Grimspeed BC
If you guys have any recommendations for anything before my first tune, I would appreciate it. Oh, and I got the car completely stock other than a COBB AP. Unfortunately, after doing some pulls with the boys, boost peaked at 28psi. Peak should have been 23.5, so I completely disconnected the AP before my engine blew up. If you guys have any idea why it boosted so high consistently, please lmk. Thanks guys, love you.

Hello / Welcome @Joesendzz

Hey, moved your thread to the projects forum, but we will need some pics of the Evo & updated pics of whats been done & as you move fwd. Is that ok w/you? If not we will move your thread back here

You didnt note the injectors? You have up'd their size?

Regarding the boost issue, how did you adjust the boost (manual boost controller or through the ECU?). Just curious

Cheers, Joe

Oh, okay sweet! I have some pictures of her, but she looks pretty stock other than the updated slotted rotors. I can definitely post more pictures later down the line. I haven't up'd the injectors. As far as I know, the injectors and pump are good enough to max out the stock turbo (which I really don't have plans to do right now). And all I did to adjust the boost was run on the OTS Cobb AP Stage 1 tune. Didn't touch anything else, which was why I was surprised it went up so high.

Hey, saw your Pdf pic. Evo looking real nice & sleeper looking. I would think about upping the injector size to at least some 1000cc injectors. No fun buying injectors & having to re-tune at the expense. Install as much now prior to the tune. Do you have access to E85?

Wouldnt mess around w/that Cobb stage tune & have a real Evo tuner work his magic inside the Ecu while on the Dyno or even a street tune works as well (ive done both over the years)

Post up some real jpgs when your ready

double check your boost solenoid/wastegate plumbing and then get a custom tune for AP. Likely just to much wastegate duty cycle in the map you were trying to run.
Taking the AP off and running the stock ecu/tune with those mods is not ok either the MAF/intake and ebcs must be tuned for.
