F/S Used Exedy twin disk

I have an Exedy twin with about 2800 miles on it that I am selling. Why am I selling it? I guess because I must be getting old because I do not like the sudden clutch takeup, the chattering, or the fact that my wife absolutely cannot drive it. While that sounds stupid, I have to use her SUV sometimes and she does not know how to ride the Z1000. So, the Exedy is going. I have included several pictures for all to see, and so that those who have never seen the disk material thickness from a twin disk will not freak out. There are two disks so the clutch material is a lot thinner then a single disk. The disks are not worn, actually they have only lost .003" on each side from new, but I nearly s**t when I saw them for the first time, I thought that someone had screwed up, but that is just how they are. There are absolutely NO launches on the clutch, I cannot afford a T/C so I do not launch, that simple. While I did like the lightning fast shifting that the clutch gave me, I want drivability. Hell, I am looking to put an APS exhaust on my Evo to make it quiter, so I must be getting too old. Anyway, look at the pics and ask any questions. The price is $900 shipped. No low ballers please, I am already taking a huge hit on this so I am not going to argue over price.

Thanks,
Joey

I have to re-size pictures, they will be up shortly....

Out of curiosity, what did you install in its place to restore stock drivability?

ACT street disk setup..... Kind of stiff pedal, but a lot easier to modulate, especially for my wife!

I am interested in the clutch but it concerns me that you are stating the clutch has 2800 miles in your for sale post, yet on Feb. 8th you made the following post:

Feb 8, 2005, 02:05 PM #89
"Well, I will throw in my 2c as well. I have an Exedy twin and these are my thoughts, it does chatter and the release is not as smooth as the stock or the ACT, that being said I have the engine out of my car right now getting some forged internals and I measured the disks before it went in and after about 5500 miles. "

Not that a 2700 mile difference is that huge, but my concern is buying a "USED" wear item from a dishonest individual!

Please let me know if one of these were merely a typo or if indeed you are under-stating the use of the clutch to mislead a potential buyer.

Thanks
Greg Doyle

I did not have the miles that I thought I did on it, It was only in for about 7 weeks before I started to do the built engine. I took a trip to Arkansas after I put it in and thought I had covered a lot more miles then I actually did. It went in with 19,587 miles on the car and I started th engine build at 22,412. I split my driving between my motorcycle and the car so the car does not get the miles that I thought it did. When I recieved the disks they looked a bit thin to me so I e-mailed Exedy asking about how thick the disks should be and I got this from them...

Hi Joey,

Each disc has a differnet thickness, the disc closest to the flywheel when new is .157 inch, the second disc when new is .165 inch. Hope this helps.

Dave

I can take a pic with the dial caliper on the disks if you would like but the front is at .154 and the rear is at about .162 - .163, it is right in between so it is hard to tell. I only had about 1,300 miles on the road trip, but it seemed like a lot more then that! I might be able to hook the battery up to take a picture of the odometer, but everything is out of the car and I do not know if it will hurt anything or not. I was just way off on the miles, but I certainly understand your concerns. Like I said, if you would like a pic with the disks being measured I can do that. I had an ACT in the car to start with and that is what I am going back to, I just like the way it drives better, but I guess that is personal prefference.

Ok, I went and took some pictures just so that people coulde see how much material is on the disks. I wanted to get a really good measurement of the clutch material so I used a C caliper, the 1st and 2nd pictures show that it is accuratly calibrated. Pictures # 3 and 4 show disk thickness. The second disk is about .161 on it and the first disk is about .152 for a measurement. That is very, very close to new. I used a dial caliper for the first measurement, but if it is not perfectly perpendicular to the item being measured it will give a bad reading. I also have a new cage and ring that I ordered from Daiken Clutch (Exedy) as I am very leary about re-using these things. I have already done one clutch where the ring would not dis-engage from the throwout bearing and it was just hell getting the tranny loose, so I just got another one to avoid the risk. I took a picture but evidently it is too large and will not load. Let me know if anyone has any more questions.

How was it difficult for her to drive with the Exedy? I had the twin plate in my car when I was putting down 400 on my 03 evo, and it grabbed the exact same way as stock, and same grab point. Only difference is chatter which you only here sitting still with your foot on the clutch, simple, at a light keep it in neutral or have the window up or music going. :-P

Not low balling but when vendors have sales the exedy twin new goes for 1100-1200...

It had the same pick-up point, but the engagement is much more abrupt then a single. She just cannot get the slip right, and she had a stick shift car for 5 years! I do not think ot very hard to drive, I only stalled it about 3-4 times, but I have to use her SUV sometimes and she just cannot drive the Evo with the twin in it. She gets hit on a hell of a lot driving my Evo though!

And I have never seen a twin @ $1100. Maybe I was just missing the sales, but someone just recently did a lot of research on here and the lowest he could find was $1400.
