I'm interested but I have a few questions:

Is this an OEM front diff that's been upgraded by TRE? whats an RIP grip?

Just check out teamrip.com and you can see what they do exactly. Here's just a tidbit Jon has on his site:

"Send your just front differential in and have it upgraded with the stronger forged spider gears that holds up to the abuse much better than the weak powdered metal salad croutons they call spider gears.

Includes:
Forged shot peened spider gears
Heavy Duty 5mm solid roll pin
Shot peened viscous spines
New spider gear washers & side gear shims
*RIP grip (option)
What is a RIPGRIP? It's a limit slip insert for your transmission's open-style front differential that seems to work pretty good considering the price. CNC'd from steel and paired with some high tension springs so you get the most lock-up possible.

Very interesting, my friend and could be the perfect "in between" for my build instead of going all out for a new transfer case. Any documentation of the work performed? I am sort of stumped by the asking price.

For those that want to read about the service: http://teamrip.com/EVO_TRANSFER_CASE_SERVICES.html

No paperwork, but Jon @ TRE sent it direct to me, brand new... And that price does not include the RIP grip, or core charge. Its OBO... but honestly its well worth the money for a non-built Tcase

Oh yeah. Those dreaded core fees. Those are no joke. I believe what you say, my friend. I have never considered this an option. I mean, I do drag race my EVO8 but I baby it off the line as I am more into just the pure excitement of getting down the 1320. What else would you recommend if I opt not going with the fully built transmission route?

Its really up to you and your gut feeling about reliability and able to hold the power you're putting down. I personally do not like the stock T case in the long run with evos over 350whp. Additionally, the trans is a super weak point, so I don't have any real recommendations for you there. The trans and clutch are so important. That's one place you can't cut corners. you'll hear stories upon stories about how someone has XX whp on stock bottom end, trans, t'case... My question would be, " that's 1 in how many???" Hope that helps.
