FS: (OR) Evo 9 Turbo, no hotside.

Price drop!...Asking $300 shipped/PP'd within the 48, OBO.

Selling an Evo 9 turbo that I bought thinking was the ultra-rare Evo 9 RS turbo that came with a Ti turbine wheel & a magnesium compressor wheel. I sent the turbo to FP after receiving it to have it inspected to make sure the bearings were OK & that the turbo didn't need a rebuild. The condition checked out great, but FP called to inform me that the wheels in this turbo were not mag/Ti...someone at some point had installed the standard aluminum/inconel wheels that a standard 9 turbo has. Why? Wish I new why someone would convert such a special turbo to a normal 9.. The turbine housing was cracked, so it came off & I'm selling the turbo without one as pictured. I've sat on it for a few months debating what to do with it, & decided to sell it & keep looking for a Mag turbo...

I had the mag/ti wheel turbo a few years back. the mag wheel exploded. installed the stock 8 rotation parts in the turbo and resold. dont know why fp said cover was machined? the parts dropped right in. 16g is a 16g. the rotating parts of the mag/ti where super light. shame we never got that turbo. double shame the mag compressor wheel commonly exploded.

maybe this is the turbo I resold, lol. so few over here.

oh and the mag wheel is super easy to identify. comp wheel is anodized an orangy gold color. no need to send to fp.

How much boost were u running on that turbo?

The exploding wheels & boost greed gave this turbo a bad rap. The 01570's were common to fail when pushed above factory boost levels. Mitsu responded with the 01580 update & resolved the failing comp wheel, but the reputation stuck mostly because of misinformation in the community.. Mitsu & tuner shops still recommended on the 01580's to keep the boost levels at a reasonable level. Many owners wanted the best of ALL worlds - fastest spool/transient response, & 30 psi.. No.

Why FP said it was machined is baffling to me - the wheels are the same dimensionally...just different material.
