it's not true rs transmission. because true rs had short gear set. in your table difference in front lsd, USDM RS 8 had long 5speed.

only 5 speed USDM 9 had 1-2-3-4 short and 5th between long(0.720) and short(0.825) = 0.761.

You can argue with Mitsubishi about why the VIN that says it is an RS in the car that shows every indication is an RS has a transmission in it with the same VIN stamped in it, but is not the right one.
While you have them on the phone, you can argue with them about why the service manual says it is the right one too.


I have to wonder why exactly are you arguing that this Evo 8 transmission is not a "true evo 9 rs transmission"? Not trying to be mean or anything, but where exactly did you get the impression that this was a 9? From me calling it an 8? From me saying it was a 04? Or from me posting a VIN indicating it was a 2004?
I'm just not sure what your motivation is here other than to totally threadcrap with useless information about evo 9 transmissions in a thread about an evo 8?

Yeah you won't find it on an VIII RS man They are labeled differently, but I am unaware of any differences, at least on a US market one like this anyway...I can't speak for other markets.
