FS[SouthEast]: 5 speed VIII transmission
5 speed VIII transmission RS
Hey guys, I've got a used 5 speed transmission with about 120k on it from my daily driver (04 RS).
The 5th gear syncro grinds if you are over 3k rpm or so, and I didn't feel like fixing it so I just bought a new tranny. Given the syncro being bad, I would guess the gear is probably chipped too, however it has run fine as a daily driver for a year and a half like this with no change in condition, just letting the RPM drop before hitting 5th gear.
This would be a fine core for sending out to get built without having any down time on your car (usually $1500 and up if you opt to send core after purchase), or quite honestly it would be fine for a DD/beater. I've driven it this way with no worries, just couldn't find anything else to do with $2k this month so I bought a new tranny
I have not removed the throw out bearing, but it should be replaced of course. It is noisy with clutch out or decel in gear like they usually are as they age.
Looking for $750 picked up in Vero Beach.

The VIN is hard to read (not just in the picture), but is original to my chassis. Last eight are 4U068599. Speed sensor and back up switch are included; all rubber dust boots are not.

Neat, you're right. I wonder what that is about.
I'll try to take a close up of the VIN tomorrow at work. It is really hard to read, but there are ample indicators that it is the correct original transmission; the 4U, the 599 are all easily agreeable if you were looking for those numbers. If you weren't trying to match it up it would be very difficult though.

Better pictures of VIN as promised.

Apparently original RS's came with the X5BE but was not documented in the catalog as such. Which makes me wonder if my X5BC I got is correct
