INSTALLED: Spoolinup DIY COP
I ordered parts of the DIY kit from Matt a week and a half ago. At the same time I picked up some used coils off ebay. The buyer on ebay informed me 10 days later that the item was no longer available... pissed cause I had already let Matt know which coils I was getting so he could send me the correct hardware. I was lucky enough to find another set of used coils cheap and ordered them, however different hardware was needed for that particular type of coil. Matt has bent over backwards during this entire fiasco and has already sent out the correct hardware. I have some makeshift stuff from Ace Hardware put together at the moment until the new hardware arrives.
On to the fabrication... This is pretty straight forward if you have any experience with cable manufacturing, or you are good at wiring. There are only 2 things that I can really complain about. Two wires into the Mitsubishi coil connector holes are kind of a pain to get in (I had to pull them into place wiith some needle nose pliers), and how easily the fire retardant sleeving begins to fray. After looking at the fraying on the sleeving today I pulled the Toyota side connectors off and installed some heat shrink around the ends to prevent further fraying.
Car is a tad more responsive down low, and it is smoother while cruising and at idle with this new set up. I am coming from a stock ignition with a Sun Auto hyperforce, which does its job. After cruising around for a bit with the plugs that were previously installed (BPR8EIX) gapped at .020" I had an old set in the garage that I cleaned up and gapped to .025" and took it for another test drive. No breakups through 3rd or 4th, so I am pleased with the results to say the least!
Thanks again Matt for your great customer service!

Price actually had nothing to do with it, as I had already inquired about a used kit from Matt... I am a DIY type of guy, and I was a solder tech/ cable repair tech for about 5 years when I first joined the Navy, so wiring is easy for me. I just like the satisfaction of saying, hey I built or fabricated that or helped in some cases!

Waiting to hear back from the Denso rep.
Not a prob. It technically isn't an option. The Silicone covered fiberglass is better on heat protection, but I can hook you up if you want plain old fiberglass.
Matt, I sent you an email, but after re-reading this thread, I realize you are currently waiting to hear back from Denso. I would be much more at ease (mentally) knowing I have new coils in my kit. If it doesnt work out, I think I'll sleep just find with the used coil set. Waiting to hear from ya.
