Im going off memory here but wouldnt he have to weld them up inside the actual tank? I think it's a little trickier than simply tacking it back on there...as for replacing all the studs if he has it apart then sure why not? But at the same time Im not even sure it's worth it.
Did you snap it taking the nut off or torquing it back down? In the case of my friend's car the nuts were fairly rusty so they were brittle and a lil seized on there. Seems like a lil coating of antisieze should stop the rust from forming and obviously seizing down the road. As someone else mentioned they don't require much torque to put them back on; its a faily think rubber gasket so a lil snug down should do the trick.
Nonetheless, good luck with your adventure and dont forget to plug back in any of those stupid hoses or you'll be dropping the tank again, lol
^yeah this whole process is on a level of suck that I haven't felt since engineering school hahaha. I snapped it torquing it down.
UPDATE:
Went to a good welder in the area and we sat there together trying to come up with the best method tackle this problem.
In the end we decided that replacing all the studs would be too invasive, especially because there is nothing wrong with most of them and the baffling inside the tank was intimidating to say the least.
We tig welded 3 tab extensions over the effected area of the pump housing ring and 3 studs on a flat part of the tank. The old broken stud was ground down to keep it out of the way.
Overall he did great work. I just have to be careful not to torque down the reinforced side too much because it could pivot the ring at an angle and cause a leak. In fact, 1ftlb is already too much.
My final thoughts are this.
1. If this happens to you and you don't have a leak, leave it be.
2. If this happens to you and you were going to upgrade your tank fuel lines anyway or maybe do some diff work, you might as well get it done. (this was me)
3. If this happens to you and you don't have a leak, but you are having trouble sleeping at night, you might as well get it done.
I know it's an overkill fix, but my next problem is going to be reaching those studs while the tank is in the car. Hopefully there is enough clearance. If not, ill have to make some!
The ones you added should be reachable. The sender is towards the front of the opening in the floor, and their is space towards the rear where you added the studs.
