The Driveshaft Shop 900hp Front Axles Fitment

Hi Guys,

I had some questions about DSS level 2 900hp axles. Check out the pictures below and tell me if you don't see something wrong after being installed. This is the passenger side front axle. It is fully in place and pushed fully into the transfer case and fully into the wheel hub/bearing assembly

Did you guys see it? The ABS reluctor ring is in the wrong spot. It needs to be nearly inside the wheel hub housing so that the ABS sensor can read it. Do you think I received an older version of this axle on accident? Could it be that I installed it wrong? If so, how?

Thoughts and opinions welcomed!

Have you tried installing the king nut and washer? It looks like it would draw it in the rest of the way from the pictures.

Yup! This is after installing the king nut/washer and torquing to 167 ftlbs

Spline base is resting up against the back of the wheel bearing in that last picture. Can't push it out any further. I'm thinking they put too much material in front of the abs ring when compared to the stocker.

Well i can't blame you for being a bit concerned. It might not be a problem if the abs sensor can still generate the signal. I would probably try calling up the MFG and talking to them about it before hitting the road first though.

That's true! It is awfully close to the sensor itself, just not completely under it like the stock axle was.

I wonder how close the ring needs to be to that sensor to generate a reliable signal. It would suck to have ABS come on every time I use the brakes

the sensor needs to be over the reluctor wheel. Can't be next to it.

Then that settles it. I'll shoot DSS an email to see if they have made any revisions that would fix this problem. Otherwise both axles will need to be returned.

Thanks for your help guys.

Why are you ditching your stock axles? They look fine, and will more than support your 2.3/black setup..

And now they fell off. I deserved it.

I know some axles are supplied without a tone ring. You need to swap the old one over at axle replacement. Anyway, it looks like the builder pushed it on too far. It should be fixable if careful. If you can't do it I'm sure any local machine shop can.

I'll take a look at it tonight. If pressed on, maybe they can be adjusted using a simple block of wood and hammer. Hopefully they stay tight and not just break off.

If the OD of the joint is the same and bad things happen, there's always the old one.

Those new axles don't even have 100% spline engagement in the hub. Before you beat on the tone ring, call DSS and ask them why these things don't fit..

Yeah, i think I'm just going to return them. This requires a rework. Check out what they did to fit the abs ring. They put yet another step at the end so you cant even adjust it if you wanted to.

Update;

Today I found out that the stock axles don't have 100% Hub engagement either. So the only real issue is that the driveshaft shop axles have the ABS ring in the wrong spot.

If your car does not have ABS you will not have an issue with these axels.
