Question Spark Plug/Coil Pack Help

Hi All,

I've had the spoolilnup cop setup on my evo 8 for awhile now...
During that time, i've been experiencing intermittent misfire/bucking on partial load and sometimes @ WOT...

everytime i take it to my local tuner shop... of course.. the car's fine and they can't diagnose what they can't see or feel...

so far... what seems to remedy the situation is to swap out spark plugs...

my spark plugs seem to last a good 1500-2k miles before i start feeling the intermittent bucking/misfire...

last plug change... i stopped and noticed white residue building up within the coil boot and on the coil spring itself within it...

the non sparking end of the spark plug also would have this residue on it or a build up of it over the connecting area....

is this a sign of bad coils? can someone advise me on the part # for the coils so i can order new ones asap?

I did try to reach out to spoolinup via their website as well as a direct email.. haven't heard back from them just yet.

any help would of course be very very appreciative

I would try the cheeper rout of putting some spark plug boot grease in each connection frome the cop to the spark head. Also check the spark gap every time u put the plugs in new or not, even if u did last time. My car the blue bomber is way picky on the little things and will show if she's not happy. Another thing to look for is that the plugs are corect. The auto store gave me a set that should have gone in a lancer, not not my sex blue, she did the same thing when I had those plugs, hope this helps. Let us know when u solve it.

thanks for the response!

definitely have the correct plugs
I check my gaps every change... old vs new to verify gaps.. the stay within range (.020)

boot grease is on there after the most recent spark plug change... car's still bucking at low rpm

Swap the coils over from your toyota sequoia if those are in good condition, or get a new pack of 4 and see if that makes a difference.

Also any pictures of the electrode side of the plug?

unfortunately the sequoia is in a different state for the time being (family stole it to go snowboarding)

no pics of the electrode side... but they all checked out fine...

ngk bpr8es is what's being used

i'd like to get a new pack of 4.. but can't seem to find the correct part # for replacement.. spoolinup hasn't gotten back to me yet

it was nearly impossible to take a picture of the actual coils without damaging the rubber end of the boot...

basically the white residue that you see all over the end of the boot, is caked/built up all over the coil

upon googling "white residue on coil pack"... came to the conclusion that it may be corrosion...

would anyone be able to provide part #'s used in the spoolinup coil packs so i can get them ordered?

i already tried emailng/sending message via their website/and tried calling @SpoolinUp but didn't have succesful results.

I took a picture of the coils that are currently on the car...

this doesn't match what SpoolinUp has in their DIY and i'm having a hell of a time trying to cross reference the part #

The coil is probably too short so it's sparking from the coil to the plug.

there should be a part number on the other side of the coil from what you showed in the picture above, but yes that part number is the same as the coil you have

he means the spring inside the coil itself. on those short coils with the flat connector you'll need to stretch the spring out

pull the boot off, the spring should be at least even with the plastic housing on the coil. from the factory they aren't
