Horn Deactivation Keyless Entry

I hate hearing the sound of the horn while locking my doors. Id rather it be quite, more stealthy I guess. Im sure most of you know how, but for those who dont.

Step 1. Press the LOCK Button one time and hold it in for about 10 seconds.
Step 2. While holding the LOCK Button in, press the UNLOCK Button once and hold it in.
Step 3. Count for about 10 seconds while holding both butttons in and let go at the SAME time.. And there yah go.

Thanks I've been locking the doors prior to closing mine to stop the damn horn. Now I won't have to worry about it. (Not to mention the times I hit the lock button in error)

Regards
EJM

yes, this will also work for the evo.

etacs-ecu tone alarm sounds 1 or 3 times, horn is enabled

etacs-ecu tone alarm sounds 2 times, horn is disabled

yes, if you repeat the steps you can reenable the horn. just listen for the sounds, or you can just lock or unlock your door to test.

Ok, I just tried it just now. I deactivated the horn then reactivated it to see if it works. It does. But now i'm trying to deactivate it and keep it off, but now it won't work. Maybe I'll wait a little longer as to not confuse the ECU.

sorry, i need to clarify my post...you should hold down the lock first, and then the unlock, holding them both down together for 4-10 secs. (10 is probably better just to make sure you get it)

then release both buttons simultaneously.

at this point you should hear the etacs-ecu tone alarm sound.

**note, this is from the evo 8 manual...i'm not speaking for the lancer, oz, etc. (although i'd imagine it works the same way)

I've just been hitting the "unlock" button when I get home (12:30 - 2:30am), and letting it lock itself 30 seconds later, silently.

I might give this a try, though.

I was using the 10 second rule, and probably overshooting the mark. I tried counting to 7 with the "lock" button down, pushing in the unlock button (so both are pressed at the same time) counting to 7 again, then releasing and then it worked. The range is 4-10 seconds in the manual, so I think below OR above that it won't work.

Hey guys, you know that weird manual type book that sits unused in your glovebox? Take a look at it. It explains this in full detail, such as how to deactivate the horn, activate it, make it only chirp when you hit lock twice, and how to turn the light flash on and off.

It's really a very entertaining and informative book to read.
