The Shop/dynoflash
The Shop/dynoflash
Went to the shop in norwalk CT today for my custon dyno flash. It was set for 1:00pm. When i got there at 12:45 i didnt see AL (the owner of dynoflash) so i spoke with jimmy the owner of the shop. Very nice guy down to earth and understanding. At about 2pm AL showed up to begin tuning. there was one kid infront of me waiting from 12 and he went first. evo 9 with an intake. He put down 269whp. AL talked him into a fuel pump which he bought so i had to wait a bit longer to be tuned. Not too big of a deal.
so at about 3:00pm was my turn. they pulled my car on mods are as follows:
nisei front mount intercooler and intercooler piping
apexi induction box
works recirc valve
full race prostock manifold
20g 9 5 turbo
some o2 housing
turbo back garage hrs exhaust
hks dli II
hallman mbc
thats about it.
first pull was crazy and AL was positive he tuned the car before. which he didnt it had a turbo trix mail in flash prior to Al tuning it. i forget what it put down but it was a really good number but my boost curve was very messed up. hitting 19psi then going to like 23psi by 5600rpm then dropping to 21. wga had no preload.
they let the car sit to cool before fixing it tried fixing it but it was still having boost issues with VERY bad boost creep. anyway in the end i made 338awhp on a dyno jet
the owner and al said they were very impressed
they thought i had cams etc. but i do not
anyway now on to the good and bad
good:
1.owner of the shop was very nice and explained things clearly and nicely wasnt impatient
2.owner fixed the wastegate issue for me and told me what i needed to do to fix it
3.i made good power haha
4.the car got tuned?
BAD:
1.dynoflash AL is completly rude and obnoxious which ive heard before no big deal
2.He was late for the tune by 2 hours
3.shows up and starts saying hes pissed because a neighbor kid who he doesnt like was there then takes 15 minutes to yell at this scrawny kid like a ****ing school house bully VERY UNPROFESSIONAL
4.when i asked what was wrong with my car he explained it to me like i was an idiot and kept being a *****
5.charged me 50$ for the wastegate preload issue(not a huge deal but 50$ for 20 minutes worth of work when he was 2 hours late i thought was a bit much but maybe thats how he does bussiness)
all in all the rumors about AL are true if you go there and dont open your mouth whatsoever to him you may get the good side of AL
im not surprised at all i should have known and it wasnt a big deal he tuned my car it made ok power and thats it.
i need cams and headstuds installed and a tune and when that gets done i will not be going back to the shop mainly because i dont want to see AL again its sad that i beleive the shop is going to lose bussiness due to AL but then again they may see a ton more who knows.
in the end i wish there was a way to do bussiness with the shop without having to do bussiness with AL someone so knowledgeable shoudlnt be so rude he should be willing to share his knowledge and help the community rather than acting like a movie star showing up fashionably late and blowing my questions off like i was not a paying customer of his.
i give the shop
i give AL/dynoflash:
this thread may come off that im mad in some way but i am not
i knew and heard about AL before i went
but i wanted to give him a chance and not listen to every mouth on this site
well i will continue to do things this way and when i have an issue or a good experience i will post it as fairly as possible
stay tuned for the reveiw of the next shop who will be installing my cams and head studs and doing a retune of the car

To respond to a few points of your comments
#1 - I did not charge you $50 to fix your wastegate - The Shop charged you $50 to R & R your wastegate arm and adjust your wastegate - I collected the money at the conclusion of the tune and paid The Shop for services rendered. (I feel that $50 is a fair price to charge, imho for the job).
#2 - The person I ejected is an employee of the neighbor tuning shop which shares our location (Jimmy is their landlord). That shop - Speed Technik has not paid its rent in 4 months (total rent in arrears $30,000 plus) and is going out of business and moving to a new location. Jimmy is evicting them in a court case at the present time and they (the kid) have been instructed on numerous occassions not to come on the premises. When I came here, and observed this individual conversing with our customers - (no doubt in an attempt to solicit our buisiness) my first action was to strongly request that the individual leave the premises. Sadly, I have had to do this same thing on numerous occassions. I am sorry if this situation offended you, however, it really has nothing to do with tuning your car. As a side note and by way of background, those individuals have called the police on our shop several times this very week to complain that we were blocking our driveway and to call in noise compliants about our dyno operation. Honestly, I see no reason to ***** foot about and allow these individuals who have no business in our place of business to try and steal our customers. Frankly, I am proud of the fact that I have the back bone to tell those ****s how it is and tell them to leave. Honestly, everyone else here is too diplomatic and polite to request that they leave, that job is left to me. Hopefully, they will get the message and stop trying to steal our customers.
#3 - As for your tune being delayed while we installed a suggested fuel pump in the first customer's car, whenever I am tuning a car, the first thing I am concerned with is doing a good job. If and when minor repairs are needed we do them on the spot in order to take care of thc customer. I am sure that the guy after your car did not appreciate that his appointment was also further delayed while we adjusted your wastegate - however - we would not want to ask you to leave without trying to correct your problem. Customers are suggested to come for dyno sessions and plan to be patient as frequently cars have mechanical and boost issues and problems which we have to diagnose and correct as part of the tuning process. I find this complaint most ironic as in fact your car was one of the ones which cam eto the dyno with a mechanical problem - in this case a wastagte gate actuator and or adjustment. I like to get every car perfect no matter how long it takes and frequently this means working long hours but I rather stop and get something fixed and then complete the job. Thankfully, Jimmy and Marlon are willing to also stop their work to help my customers and there has never been a case in which they did not take the time to help to correct my customer's mechanical issues or install something needed. in fact i am still here now as 11:37 pm as we are waiting for a STI customer to R & R their utec as a result of a miss fire condition which the car has - no doubt its late but I would rather see the customer leave with a tuned car which is working and these things can take time.
#4 I do not know WHOM tuned your car before you purchased it used . I speculated that I may have been one of my tunes based upon the dead flat 11/1 a/f which I frequently use. However, it is very possible that TT may have tuned it. My main point of raising it to you was when you came in, you stated you had a stock tune which when I saw the initial dyno sheet, I knew right away that it was presviously tuned. i dont understand what your objection is or complaint as one way or another the car was tuned before as many used evos are.
#5 - As to your "questions" rest assured NO question is a "stupid' one to me. I try to answer every question to the best of my ability. Perhaps my answers where stupid in which case I apologize. I do not feel that you are an idiot and if my answer gave you that impression - then I appolgize as that was not my intention.
In conclusion, I am glad that you were happy with The Shop (Jimmy and Marlon are great guys) - I hope that you give me another chance to earn your business and I will provide you another retune free of any charge when you have corrected your wastegate 02 housing or cams or what ever else you have in store.
I was very impressed with your car's power - being one of it not the strongest non camed stock ecu evo i have seen to date so i think good things are in store for your car in the future. Sadly the boost creep issue was not something which could be completely resolved and therefore, the car needs additional work.
I am sorry if I was not in the best of sprits today as I had to eject the pest here upon my arrival and it may have put me in a poor mood. I am sorry if you did not like seeing me tell someone to basically get the **** out - but that is the way I am - direct and to the point. Furthermore, I was up all night last night working on my Evo in preparation for tmorrow's race and in fact I am still here at The Shop tuning a customers car - been a long day. I will be going from here straight to the track and sleep a few hours in the truck.
Enjoy your car and hope to hear from you in the future if you will give me another chance to satisfy you and your cars expectations .

I am very pleased that you were satisfied with Jimmy and The Shop, I have found that all my customers have had a very good experience here and they have given me great feedback. This is why I have moved my business here.
As a side note, after we have completed the evicition of the dead beat tenant, Jimmy will be expanding his operations to the front shop which should make for more room and an even better location.
Thanks
Well, I'll take Tommys free tune al
HAHA.
Not to be a pest, but like Tommy says, the vibe you give off just kinda sucks. I was there today(red evo) and you're an excellent tuner, but the attitude sucks sometimes. When you're typing on the forum, your grammar makes you seem a lot differen't than you act in person.
+1 for The Shop and Jimmy and Al's tuning capabilities.

Bottom line is I am not happy if you feel you did not get a level of service which is a fair value for the $300 you spent for tuning and dyno time. Therefore,
if you feel you did not get a fair level of service, I will offer you a refund of my entire tuning fee. (The wastegate adjustment and dyno time part is not refundable as those were paid to The Shop). I hope by giving you back all the money that I personally charged you this may resolve the issue to your satisfaction.
Stop by anyday next week and I will reimburse you in person if you want to.
You are free to keep the map I provided to you today with my compliments.
Frankly, I was very pleased with the results of the tuning session, and I am greatly suprized to read all these comments you have. In the 4 years I have been tuning evos your car is one of if not THE most powerful on stock cams and ecu that I have seen. The tuning part of the job came out well and certainly, I was able to quickly and accurately diagnose your specific problem. We even put on a brand new Forge MBC and took other steps to try and correct the boost creep (all to no avail).
Again, I am sorry that you were not satisfied with my service, I hope by refunding your money this will resolve the matter to your satisfaction.

I've seen the threads on Al many times in the past. I just want to throw in my 2cents.
I got an eflash from Al not really knowing anything about him other than he's one of the best tuners out there. The price was great and having the ability to tweak stuff in the future was reason enough to go with him. After I flashed, I was VERY impressed with the power I was making.
At last years shootout, I saw Al hard at work in one of Buschurs bays trying to get his car ready to race.
When I saw him stop for a minute, I called him over to thank him. He came right over, listened to what I had to say and was happy that I was pleased with his service. He asked to see my dyno sheet from the runs I had taken earlier in the day so I ran back to my car to get them and again, he dropped his tools and came right over and went over some things with me and commented on how smooth my curves were for just a BASE flash. We chatted for a few minutes and I was on my way.
I'll be dealing with Al again in the future for sure. Besides, I don't understand what the big deal is. You pay him to tune your car and that's what he does and does very well. I could give a **** less what he's like as long as he's providing the services I pay him to provide.
I'm not saying ANYONE is right or wrong, I'm just saying that Al CAN be a nice guy. I don't see too many people post up positive dealings with Al so I figured it's needed. Oh, and this isn't the first time I've seen him offer full refunds just because someone didn't like his attitude. Thats a+ in my book. Although, you'd think that after having to keep giving back money, he'd learn to smile more.

I'm sad to say this seems uncharacteristically professional from Dynoflash. I am, however, happy to hear that you seem to be striving for a higher level of customer service. If this is the new Al/turning over a new leaf I'm impressed.
Ok fair enough.

My goal is to provide to the customer an experience which they find totally satisfactory and earn their future continued buisiness. In a way this works very well as a significant percentage of my customers are retunring customers - (at least 60% of my tuning appaointments are retunes of existing customers). Of course there is room for improvement so this is why I want to try and do what ever it takes to go the extra mile to try and please every customer.
In an ideal world, it would be better for any disappointed customers to bring their issues or complaints to my attention at the time of the tune. We encourage every customer to take car for a post tune test drive and I personally ask the customer when they come back "how was the tune?" and "are you satisfied.?" It would be better for customers who may have complaints to bring them to mt attention at that time so that I can try and correct the problem or offer a resolution which suits the customers needs.
For example, when eating in a resturant it would be more effective to tell the waiter that the soup is cold BEFORE you eat it all ?
Simailarly, if you are not being given satisfactory answers to your questions, I think that is something you should raise immedtely with the vendor.
I think with Jimmy's guidance I have gotten better at this in the past 9 months. Its a work in progress.

haha AL thats a generous offer of giving me my money back but it is not necessary
you did the tune and thats what you were paid to do so youve earned your money
i was pretty happy with my tune the car felt smoother and faster down low
in the "good" section of my reveiw i said "the car was tuned" and thats that
with this review im not trying to steer anyone away from dynoflash or the shop
everyone knows the rumors and thats that
what im trying to do is give an honest detailed account of what occured at the shop from when i pulled in to when i left
and i believe i did so
i appreciate what you did for me but i feel the treatment i recieved outweighed the service you provided (in a negative way)
i just think that being the person you are, which id say is a person who has probably if not definetly tuned the most evos out there. as that person you should try to help teach the community rather than look down your nose at them
but its fine you say you are learning and thats great, good customer service will probably bring you more bussiness than providing the best tunes on the market. i can almost gaurantee it
In the end i say AL is a stand up guy for offering me my money back
this however doesnt mean i will ever go back to him for his service
there are WAY to many tuners and shops out there for me or the rest of the community with VERY nice knowledgeable mechanics and tuners
so i say AL good luck to you and tell jimmy i said thank you very much for being as professional as he was
also im sure when those low lifes at speed technik leave THE SHOP will be a MUCH nicer place and when that happens please post so i can come down and check out the new customer service/expanded bussiness

i just think that being the person you are, which id say is a person who has probably if not definetly tuned the most evos out there. as that person you should try to help teach the community rather than look down your nose at them
but its fine you say you are learning and thats great, good customer service will probably bring you more bussiness than providing the best tunes on the market. i can almost gaurantee it
In the end i say AL is a stand up guy for offering me my money back
this however doesnt mean i will ever go back to him for his service
there are WAY to many tuners and shops out there for me or the rest of the community with VERY nice knowledgeable mechanics and tuners
so i say AL good luck to you and tell jimmy i said thank you very much for being as professional as he was
also im sure when those low lifes at speed technik leave THE SHOP will be a MUCH nicer place and when that happens please post so i can come down and check out the new customer service/expanded bussiness
i had my car tuned by al before but it was a street tune so i had no idea what i made... dude was an *** at first but i kept quiet..he did his thing and i did my thing...the tune turned out to be worthwhile...
anyway dude.. your still on stock injectors?? im running almost indentical setup as you but with no manifold.. hey man..get on aim.. i need to talk to you about something.. i sold you the carbon fiber surround and wanting to trade gauges for injectors remember???

Good review. Your experience was pretty much consistant with the one that I had with Al (although mine was just a base flash).
All in all, I am happy with the tune and have no complaints whatsoever.
