This is only covered under the basic warranty. If you are out of that, which you should be since you have an 03 -- then you would have to pay out of pocket, but yes, they will fix it for you.

LOL - I've always noticed this problem - but there's no way in crap I'm doing all that to fix a tough heater control switch!

My mother's knob has broken off. I need to replace this as soon as possible. I'm assuming the knob is the lever and included in this TSB. Russell, can you please confirm this for me? Thanks.

The knob is not the lever. The TSB addresses the problem. If the knob is sticking its because of the failure of the mechanism that moves when you turn the knob. So basically you need the TSB parts and a new knob.

You can get to those gears on the side of the heater box by just sliding onto the driver's side floor board on your back and looking at the side of the heater core box. The two little gears themselves cost like $5-$10 depending on your relationship with your mitsu parts person or whatever the cost might be at your online oem mitsu parts vendor of choice. This is literally a 5 minute fix. The tension is really relieved a lot just by doing the gears.

You said sticky knob!! I have the same issue with my 05. If someone can provide the gear part numbers I will do the repair myself. Mitsuorder, do you have part #'s?
