Fp green vs black

I see all this red vs black. What about green vs black. I'm running a non hta fpgreen and I'm wanting to upgrade turbo, I see the fpred price is almost the same price as the black. Can we get a test on this fp set up?

Those turbos don't even live in the same neighborhood

black will gain some lag, but potentially 200+ hp over your green

Depends what you want from your car, black has more lag but way more potential, if you drag race or like doing pulls on the highway its a perfect fit.

But if you road race its a bit too laggy on a stock 2.0 to be considered a road racing or auto X turbo.

And FP red is somewhere in between but closer to the black then the green from what dyno graphs and real world experiances and accounts show.

What are your expectations for the car? As stated above, on a stock 2.0 the black will show significant more lag but the power potential is by far greater.
Considering the fact that you're now on an old school green, even the 73HTA green would be a considerable upgrade...the red even more-so too.

I have a HTA Green going on in a month which would be a considerable upgrade from your older style Green. With a proper setup the HTA I'm seeing ranges around 430whp vs 450-470whp on the black (pump gas).

I only have 93oct in my area so I went with the better spool.

I think this is also another very important factor that the OP should consider...what kind of fuel will you be working with...as both turbos have very different efficiency ranges.

Not the same but I had a BBK vs FP Black thread hanging around. At the same boost level it didnt look very good but was still a good compare.

heres a comparison of a 93oct fp black vs 93oct fp green.

pretty much the fp green will give you way quicker spool and response in general, but not have as much top end power as the fp black.

both are great turbos, but if youre looking for a quick responding turbo with decent potential then the fp green, if you dont mind full boost coming on until around low 4000rpm's then a fp black is a good buy.

either way both are excellent turbos. if you have e85 the fp green will go over 500 fairly easy with good supporting mods.

429 is the max i got the green setup above on 26psi. thats about the limit it will make at that boost level on 93 with basic bolt ons and nothing serious.

good comparison tscomp...you got that black to spoolup pretty early.
To the OP, I know its not a green or black like you're requesting, but for comparison sake, here is where I've got my red to spool.

Looks like a couple hundred rpms earlier than the black...an HTA green will be even sooner.

ya that spoolup looks good. thats about the quickest its gonna get on a red. the black i compared was on a 9 turbo so mivec helped, but the fp green one is on a regular evo 8, so not a true comparison in general but close enough to understand the characteristics of the turbos.

they all seem to be a few hundred rpm's apart from one another.

fp green = full boost 3700-3800rpm at best
fp red = full boost 4100rpm at best
fp black = 4300-4400 at best

so they all seem to be about 250rpm apart from each other or so.
all above based on 2.0L

Keep the transient response difference in mind too. If you go WOT even above 4000 rpm, the Black will briefly hesitate whereas the smaller turbo will go right away. That's particularly noticeable between gears if not doing no-lift shifting. The additional lag is also particularly noticeable from a dead start without a launch in the first 2 gears. Area under the curve is most important and dyno comparisons don't show you the entire story if you want to compare short bursts of speed vs long drag/dyno pulls.

later on tonight, i should get a decent pull with similar air temps / car weight comparing a hta grn & my fp-blk.

same car, fmic, etc.....just the turbo & tune.....boost target is 30 psi.

1 thing that dyno charts dont show is the transient / around town response of the smaller turbo.

so i drive my car with a certain amount of acceleration that i like, as everyone does....even those who drive a prius...

with that being said, i find that the hta grn offers "X" tq ~800 rpm sooner than my black, being that i shift @ 3800 rpm with the grn, but with the black, i find that i am shifting @ ~4500 rpm....this is city driving, taking off from a stop light, going up in speed & through the gears & cruising ~45/55mph, etc..

I will post whp/tq & boost compares.

I assume this is the newer HTA Green?
