considering how fast our cars burn gas... I think its about right that the light comes on with about 2-3 gallons left. I've noticed that needle really starts moving once its down low. ( Sometimes, i swear i can actually see the needle moving)

The fuel pickup has a bag filter. It won't pickup dirt. I've seen the inside of a 35 year old gas tank anyway and it was completely dirt free. It's still a good idea considering the possibility of water in gas, but if thats a problem then an aftermarket fuel/water seperator is needed.

I usually let mine get just below the line and I then end up putting about 13 - 13.5 gallons into it.

Some of the STi guys have the same problem. Does this happen when you try to pump at a different gas station? check it out, it may help.

Normally the light will go on when you have about 2 1/2 gallons left in the tank. So if you fill up right away u should only be able to put about 11 1/2 gallons. I normally end up waiting till there is about 1 gallon left just cuz im lazy like that. But the whole story about the dirt and filth at the bottom the the tank is bull**** lol. Ive changed out my fuel pump to a high flow pump and ill tell u right now, the fuel is ALWAYS taken from the VERY bottom of the tank. So its stupid to think the bottom is dirty. If it got fuel from the top of the tank then u would have gallons and gallons just sitting there forever. Its like if you stick a 3 inch straw into a 8 inch cup. U will have to refill the top every 2 sips. The bottom of the tank is perfectly clean. Gas doesnt leave behind deposts, if it did ur fuel system would be clogged within a couple days.

yep, so the light goes on around 3 gallons used, which, as already stated, is jsut about right, considering that's just over 50 miles that it allows you to drive, which could save you from alot of trouble if you were to stop in the middle of a highway or something. you'll get used to when you really need to fill er up, or when you have some time ;]

ok this is my deal now
Yesterday I was driving home and the light came on for the "first time" (needle) almost at the end, I didnt want to turn around so I went home.
Today I went to the gas station, the light was off and the needle at the 1/4 tank mark?
I put 10.416 gallons, couldnt get another drop in there and the needle stays at a little over 3/4. whats going on here?
