yeah, that's the best course of action..... There is nothing wrong with those base "safe" settings. The big problem is that they are probably not going to give you much improvement.... OTOH, you could get lucky and have one of those cars that respond very well to a canned setting. Have you tried some of the more conservative settings posted in these forums?

Good luck with your efforts

Can anyone help me out with S-AFC II Settings? I have an AEM cone intake, 3inch downpipe, and an MBC set at 20psi tapering to 18.5-19psi.

Thanks in advance!!!

silver, I haven't tried any of those in fear of something bad happening .

could you recommend those "base" settings for me and i'll give them a shot on my setup?

what are you using to read you're a/f ratio, or is that number from a dyno graph?

Hey guys, I got a problem..

I used BS's settings, which are here:

4600 -2%
5200 -3%
5800 -4%
6400 -8%
7000 -13%
7600 -13%

I didn't touch anything below 4600 - I did some 1st - 3rd gear runs, pulling to redline everytime. I setup the knock sensor on the SAFCII, with 223 counts at both 1500 and 3500rpms. As I did some test runs (2-3 times), I got a spike of knock counts 2 out of the 3 runs. This really worries me!

With such a high knock setting (223) I see 0 counts daily driving, but as I was doing pulls at WOT, I saw a spike of about 60-80 somewhere between 2nd and 3rd gear (SAFCII isnt't exactly the greatest logging tool.. I don't even know at what rpms). It spiked, then dropped back down to 0 after that.

I dropped everything back to the stock map, and only did one run and saw nothing happen.

Do you guys have any idea what that spike might be?

Actually I discovered that there is a lean spot from about 2500-3500 that you need to fatten up if you are pulling near WOT.. you might want to at least put some fuel back into your settings under 4500 rpm.. You don't mention how much boost your running, but those settings are a bit lean if your running over 19psi on a cool day..

Interesting. My SAFCII should be arriving today.

I hope to see a nice improvement on the top-end. I'm also interested in the knock feature.

Per the post above, he didn't touch the settings below 4600. Do you think he actually needs to richen above baseline in that range? I'm going to take a fairly conservative base map until I can get on a dyno with a wideband, but it's nice to get info like this.

Thanks,

You might actually want to go +1 or +2 on settings below 4500 or so.. Play around until the knock subsides.. It all depends on boost.. Under load and near wide open throttle, it will behave a little different than less load under WOT..

MalibuJack,

It's at 0% for anything under 4600 rpms. Does that mean I actually want to add +1% for anything under that?

BTW, I'm running stock boost.

Yes... you can actually use positive settings.. It depends on load and peak boost but if you find you get a bit of knock at certain RPM's, then you should be adding fuel.. Also don't forget there's a LO-THR setting to allow you to set a curve of compensation based on throttle position (this way if you find you need a certain compensation at part throttle, and different at WOT, it will interpolate the space between) I have yet to see anyone tune for part throttle open loop compensation for drivability where most of us are driving.. I find that even when I'm testing WOT runs, I find that I'm frequently not at WOT the whole time, hence tuning for those things will improve drivability and performance.
