50 post rule

I just found out about the 50 post rule. I have been lurking or a member and posting for about three or four months. I check the site 2 or 3 times a day. I posted when I felt that I had something to contribute. And now that I have an EVO and would like to buy mods/parts for the car I find out about the 50 post rule. That is a ton of posts unless you are just a bumper.

Can we not reconsider this rule. Do we really think that scammers and cheats are thwarted by this rule? If I was gonna scam somebody out of some serious cash then I would post all the time on this forum just to make people feel that I was truly one of them and then - wham. But a guy like me who has a legit need/want of some parts is blocked by the man.

Some things to think about - how about making a time registered or number of posts cutoff (not both). Or how about restricting sellers, not buyers. Or how about making newbies have to read the policy so they know they have to post BS just so they can be part of the sales club. Or how about no policy at all and having buyer and seller beware. Also, how about making the FAQ a little better about this subject. I typed in "unable to post" in the search field under FAQs and got NADA.

Sorry for the rant but I am a little (read lot) frustrated.

"selling" restrictions

From what I have been able to determine, I cannot reply to any posts in the for sale section due to my newbie status.

i can see what you're saying but you don't need to post in a buy thread...just pm the person...it's better for you anyway, especially if you're trying to get a deal on something.

I think the rules set should stand...even though a scammer can get around the rules...they might bypass the time it would take to do the 50 posts it would take to attempt a scam...50 posts takes time(most are lazy and the good ones that aren't will get you anyway). deterrents really do work even if they are simple to bypass.

I see your point. But why block posts on the for sale threads for newbies? Like you say, I can PM them anyway and it hinders me getting the 50 posts.

the biggest reason for this is all the spammers that come in and just go insane in the forsale area etc.... and people that are scamming people.... 50 posts is really not that hard to come by

From experience, if you have any trouble trying to buy or sell try to comunicate using the PM or e-mail. When I sold my WRX back in October I was able to sell 100%of the upgrades in less than a month(that was more than $5000 back to my pocket).

You can also have someone as a intermediary like me or anyone. Sometimes I read post that says:

Looking for EVOMR rims and I just reply to the post with a link wich I know it has the EVOMR wheels for sale..

Angry Best advice

[B]50 is not that hard when you are trying. I just did not want to post stupid posts like this one to get it. I am a little afraid of the post ***** warning also. I just don't like it when I can't get things RIGHT NOW. Maybe some of you can relate.

I agree with you on this. I joined back in Dec 2003 and have been deployed to Iraq most of that time. I tried to post on the F/S forum the other day and got the message that I did not rate to post because I did not have 50 posts. Then it states that if you start posting a bunch they will ban you for a week. Screwed either way if you ask me.

I dont have any probs with the minimum post count for the priv/sale forum. In fact I have been a advocate and voted for it because it will make it harder for scammers to come in and take our money. If you want to buy stuff just send a pm, you dont necessarily have to post in the thread. If you want to sell stuff, start posting, let us get to know you. Evom is a community, kind of like family where we help each other out. Last thing I want to hear is a member getting ripped off here.

Also 50 post might be a little too much, but then again I dont know the statistics of this forum so I wouldnt be able to recommend an appropiate figure, but any 10 or more would be good to me.
