Question Server Speed

This server seems to be getting to bogged down, so I wanted to see if it's been slow for a lot of members. If you could please list some info like:

1. Your Internet connection
2. Location / Region
3. Comments on website speed, slow, ok, fast, etc.

We are probably going to upgrading servers again... hopefully this one will last. In the meantime I'll be working on some database tweaks and upgrades to see if that helps any. I just want to make sure our connection is decent for everyone and it's mainly the server that's an issue.

Thanks,

Mark

Sometimes, very rarely though, it takes a while for a page to load. But 90% of the time, everything is fine. I hope when u switch servers again it wont take a week..cause im addicted to EvoM.net

Noticed a few days here and there where it is quite slow, but generally pretty darn good. i trust your server more than I trust my cable provider.

Fiber optic T1 at work.

2.6mbps cable at home.

NJ

Generally it's quite quick on off hours, but when I'm at work 9am-5:15pmEST and sometimes between 9pm-1pmEST it gets bogged to the point where I can't do anything. The good ole "Server is too busy at the moment." (or whatever it is) message has resurfaced lately. I'd attribute it to something like too many people searching at the same time, but I know better than to assume people search. j/p

Not a problem for me though, but on occasion when the page loads, it hangs for about 10 secs. then bang appearing. It use to be BOOM. But it suddenly hangs for a bit. I also get "Server is busy, please try again later."

The people who really get the short end of the stick here are 56K users. When I was on a cruise about 2 days ago, (they only had a 56K modem) the pages took forever and I literally stretch that word forever to load. Took about aprox. 2 mins to load the page. Of course they were charging 50 cent a minute. But for DSL and up users shouldn't have a problem loading pages. Maybe lag here and there but nothing to worry about for them.
(Specially Andrew, T1.)

Other then that it's cool.

64k ISDN, Athens, Greece. Armpit of the world, north of Africa, west of Asia. 1500 miles from Baghdad.
And yeah, BUTT *** slow... But nothing I can do I guess, ISDN @ 64k is the best they can do in Greece. Guess i was spoiled in america with Roadrunner. No cable/dsl etc here..

What I tried though is uninstalling that Flash macromedia BS. I guess that is used for animating graphics like the sponsors advertisements and such? Do you IT techy guys think this is wise in an attempt to speed things up for my slow connection? Even though I get a pop up to Install flash on virtually every page I look at, I think it moves a little faster without having to juggle with the ads. Any idea on how to disable that pop up to install Flash? Gone through IE security properties with no luck.

I'll be looking into a new server for the site... one that shouldn't need upgrading again for a while. When the switch occurs there shouldn't be much if any downtime except while backing things up and transfering files and the DNS.

I'm also going to look into a more userfriendly design for the new site (or at least a 56K style that users can select w/ less graphics).

Everything seems copasetic to me...I haven't noticed much lag. Of course, I surf at odd hours, so...I'm not a good marker for this kind of stuff.
