Can off-topic threads be discluded from searches?

Can off-topic threads be discluded from searches?
Especially the "View New Posts" search? I am so sick and tired of wading through the OFF-topic post subjects to try and find a topic with something important to say.
About 50% of threads that appear in that search are Off-topic.
