FAQ and "search before posting" Stickeys!
The Evo forum (and possibly other forums) NEEDS a FAQ/knowledgebase Stickey at the top of the forum main section! Wel also need a "search before posting" Stickey. I am surprised that a forum as prominent and popular as EvoM does not have these, and so few stickerys in general. Many other boards have these, and they always minimize the number of noob questions repeated over and over.
The same questions asked every day for years almost always results in flaming of the original noob poster, then people flaming the flamers for flaming a noob, and so on (you know exactly how this goes, we have all seen it a million times and a FAQ could help this. It's that simple). I am sick of the mess of repeated noob questions and just as sick of some of the responses by others who are also sick of noob questions as well.
The stickey post should address some of the most common questions and/or link to the best threads relating to them. I know this seems like it could be tricky in terms of how we say what, but if we just use the common knowledge of those who have been paying attention, and some of the gurus on here if necessary, organizing, creating, and maintaining/updating this would not be all that hard, as it should be locked, and only updated when necessary. It may sound like a hassle but it will pay for itself and the effort required in the following ways:
- less time/page space wasted by noob question/flame threads for members browsing for new and useful information
- less head/heartache for those who cannot stand posts with noob questions
- less anguish of being flamed as a noob!
- less negativity and more positivity overall, better organization of the board,
- less work for mods/admins/posters/noobs/gurus/etc.
- reduced time being a noob if they are willing to read one post! yeah yeah, I know, they should search, but let's face it, they don't. reading one big post = way easier/motivated than doing dozens of searches for things that probably won't even occur a noob. besides, searhcing is "hard" or something apparently. clicking one glaring FAQ link is easy.
- "read the FAQ" is more helpful than "f*ck1ng search you dumb@$$!"
I am more than willing to be the one responsible for this, although I am far from the most knowledgeable, and would be glad to collect the information, find and organize the threads/links/poeple needed to create it.
Here are just a few of the noob questions that are frequently asked:
- General knowledge about our cars and tuning approach i.e. when to do what, etc.
- Address all the "what's the BEST ________ ?" (ex: Advan replacement tire, BOV, intake, exhaust mani, springs, etc.)
- Basic info about our cars' specs.
Anyone who reads this and agress to some of any extent, please post a reply in support. Mods/Admins please PM me if you agreee/disagree with this or would like to take me up on my offer.

For reference, here is a very casual FAQ I posted back in 2004 (yes, I know drifting.com is wack, but if the kids are gonna drift and do SR swaps, help them do so in a better manner than totally ignorant) . It gots tons of hits and noticeably reduced redundant questions on that board. I still receive emails, PMs, and IMs because of it to this day even though I got rid of my 240sx years ago.
The EvoM one is not going to be like this, but you get the idea of the general attitude it will have...

they way i've always seen it is google is for searching, forums are for asking. if someone asks something thats been asked before, either answer it or show them where to find the answer. thats just they way i see it, im sure most will disagree.
You didn't bother to read all the other threads in this forum on how we need more stickies and FAQ. This proves the point perfectly.
It's never going to be perfect. We're always going to have clueless n00bs. We control them as best we can.

There are forum sections here that have this, such as Ralliart general, and it doesn't make one bit of difference. Many people are lazy and take the easy route, which is basically creating a new thread.
