How is EvolutionM.net paid for?

I was just wondering about this... It is difficult running a popular site such as this... When the day comes and the ad & vendor revenue is not enough, would you participate in some sort of cost sharing/subscription model? - similar to what the UK dudes over at the MLR ( http://www.lancerregister.com ) do?

I would! This site has been of great help to me, I would hate to lose it.

EvolutionM.net rocks!

The idea's been tossed around. I dunno if Mark decided to keep that idea going or left it behind.

One good idea might be just having a Paypal account to send donations too. A buck here and there can't hurt.

Mark also has another source of revenue. Those registered vendors you see have to pay a subscription (I dont know the details) in order to be able to endorse their products by posting on this site. Im sure there are also other ways Mark is keeping this site up and running. So far, Mark has been doing an EXCELLENT job at keeping the site up and running fast! Thanks Mark, you da man!

I tossed the idea around, but I don't want it to be a pay for the site thing. If we ever do anything it would be only for additional perks like webspace, etc.

I'd rather just keep things the way they are though, as I don't want the members to have to pay for the site to work. Same with donations... I'd rather everyone keep the money and spend it on their cars so we have stuff to talk about

I was wondering the same thing today when I saw the main page. To the right of everything there are some links sponsored by google that have nothing to do with lancers or evos.

Don't shoot me for moving this thread back to the top, but I did a search and was going to ask the same question,,, Some sites don't require but do allow any cash donation to keep the site running... So after 3 years anymore thoughts of doing such a thing or not interested at all? Love to donate

Again I apologize if doing this was wrong and please if anyone does go wacky feel free to close the thread...

If it wasn't for this site I was heading with huge dollars to the wrong tuner, thanks for the thankless job you Mods and others do...

I really appreciate the offer, but I rather see you guys spend your cash where it matters, on your car. The whole concept of this site is to make things free for the user. I know that the banner ads can get annoying at times, but it's all there for a reason, so you don't have to pay.

I thought about adding individual features, like personal web space for each user or other additional features for a fee (something Mark mentioned above), but to be honest I really don't think I want to charge for that. It's kind of nice to have something without strings attached.

2003 to 2006 is a long, very long gap. I have never counted vendors on this site. Last i heard there was something in the 70's. Multiply that between 100-250 per month.

Yeah, at the time I think we had about half a dozen to a dozen vendors tops, and well under 20,000 users.

when it was just lancerforums.com, there were not a lot of registered users and not a lot knew about the evolution except for a selected few fanatics like me. Because of the desire to put up a site especially for evolution, the donation thing was tossed around us few original members. we offered and did at that time but after that it just took off, from few internet vendors to actual import suppliers and the rest is history. I agree about not having to pay and also the site being run sensibly.
