i wasn't trying to compare it to cross burning, but i'll tell you what, call someone a ricer out loud (not on a forum) around here, and you would see pretty quickly that certain people do find this extremely insulting. I am not Asian, but i have seen some of my Asian friends become almost violently angry for having the word rice associated with them. maybe not everyone feels that way, but it only takes one offended person to cry to an advertiser to change the entire climate of this conversation.
Toretto...tell those asian friends of yours to empty their minds and be still like water....

if anyone comes up and says something bad about we asians, we'll just bruce lee the hell out of 'em!

Calling something "rice" started back in the day when Honda introduced his motorcycle to compete in the American motorcycle market. The Harley guys who were already at war with the Indian guys (Indian is a motorcycle company, for those of you who think that Hell's Angels were chasing Native Americans around). Honda moved in and the Harley guys couldn't leave well enough alone and started to call Hondas "Rice burners". It went (somewhat downhill) from there. Given the type of person who rode a Harley back then (usually a cop or a "Hell's Angel" type) the term "Ricer" was almost definitely a racist remark.
For me, when I hear the word "Rice" as an adjective, I think of a Civic with no suspension drop and a bodykit that's scraping the ground.

Oh man, everyone has to lead a cusade, dont they? Heres my feelings on the issue:
First, rice in my mind is describing a car that has really cheap and tacky looking mods on it, and has nothing to do with ethnicity or who is driving it. Ive called quite a few Focus's ricey that had white males driving them...
Second, I dont think anyone here would or has used rice in a racist statement or remark, I mean we are all here to have fun, and I know I can speak for myself and many other members in saying it doesnt matter one bit what your ethnicity is, we all share the passion of cars...
Third, man you like a new memeber, well recent one....
Pretty bold to say what you did. Quite frankly, not trying to be mean, but if you dont like it, well no one is forcing you to browse the boards. Sometimes people are a little to thin skinned.
Oh, and let me state my signature has nothing to do with this thread and has been what it is for a while now, it was a funny comment my dad made to a guy in a Civic while we were out in his G35.

forget it, i was just trying to make a point that SOME people are offended by this, if that is a problem i guess the prevailing idea is "too bad." oh well.
---Off topic--- I am not a big F&F fan. It's just kinda ironic thats my last name.
