Occasionally, I'll select an image for upload that I've previously included in an old posting.

While it's a good idea in theory to prevent the duplicate upload... and display a link to the original thread... it's no real help at all if said original thread is 165 pages long. Not when the "duplicate upload" reject message gives you a link to page 1!

Cue 15 minutes stuffing around using thread search, "image" style search, looking through "my postings" ancient history, and Google "site:" searching for half-remembered text that might help me stumble on the original image.

The last time this happened, I actually gave up the treasure hunt, and just resized the picture in question so it would pass the sanity check. Not an ideal outcome for anybody, really.

If the upload sanity check knows where the "original image" is, could it please just give us the direct url to it? I'll give us what we actually need to re-use the reference - far better than pointing at page 1 of the original thread, and leaving us to ferret it out...

Then again, I've clocked up 8 pages' worth of 150 attachments in the 14 months I've been (dis)gracing this forum. But at least it's a slightly smaller haystack.
