Better image hosting for inline images (preservation of how-to's)

The current way files are uploaded really seems ancient to me. Personally, if I see someone has attached images to their post I won't even bother clicking on them. If you're trying to make a post, such as a how-to, the file upload is useless because you can't post the pictures in-line.

This becomes a problem because when someone makes a how-to they usually host them on a free service, such as photobucket or imageshack. I don't know the exact details but I'm pretty sure these sites prune images when they are too old or if too much bandwith is used? So when you go back to a how-to from a few years ago all the pictures are gone making the how-to pretty much useless.

Maybe you could retrict this updated file to how-tos for bandwith concerns, or limit file size (however I don't recommend that becuase higher resolution photos = better clarity for the person reading the how-to). Or maybe there are file hosting sites that don't expire that should be required when making a how-to, if they exist? However, I don't recommend that either because they may not be around as long as EvoM is.

overclock.net is a site which allows for this inline posting of images hosted on their servers.

What do you guys think?

Indeed it would be easier, and it would also require a higher maximum size, which would probably cost too much.

Hey guys!

Thank you for the comments. I'll check with IB and see if any plugins are available that can improve our picture uploading features.

I did have call today with IB Nolan concerning this issue. IB is working on a overhaul to the picture upload and hosting features. The new app will include the ability to drag and drop pics into your post with sizing automatically taken care of by the app. It sounds great and hopefully we'll see it before the end of year. Thanks!

Ok awesome. Are they going to be using a lightbox script when a picture is clicked on? If not, please recommend that they do.
