I think you are underestimating the size of this site and the number of active members and guests that visit each day.

First, yes, you would need a disclaimer. And someone would have to check the content of said vids. Bandwidth could be helped by limiting 1) number of uploads per user per day/week/month/whatever. 2) size of video. 3) number of downloads per user per day/week/month. And of course, you would need the software to do all this checking/limiting.

i think it would be a great idea if the site can handle the bandwith, plus, people would download them, there would be a lot of downloads at once, then eventually most peopel will already have the ones they like downloaded so its not like it would be constant all the time

 

I think that'd be a great idea, but I think it should only be tried after we make the server change. Isn't the server change going to be in the near future?

Any idea when and how long the site will be down for?

 

It varies. We do have to back it up just in case and transfer it to the new server. I'm not really positive on the ETA, but I'm pretty sure it'll be a long process. If I can recall the last time we upgraded servers, the site was down for about a day or so. Like i said it varies, anything can go wrong.

 

why can;t we simply have something like the SRT forums ? there video section is not using their server space and is just links to the videos posted? and everyone there loves it and i no thats the only damn reason i go to that forum lol.. its really that good.

 

Once the new site is up, I can work on a video section that allows links to the vids. That will eliminate bandwidth issues and will allow a central place to view vids. The only issue is that the quality of the links will be poor because many of the sites will run out of bandwidth, shut down, etc.

If I can figure out a way for us to host videos, I'll do it. For now, I highly recommend http:www.racingflix.com

There is a new site www.yousendit.com it allows hosting up to 1gb for 7 days we could use that as a place to host them for now and its pretty fast. Its also free try it out.

 

What about the use of bittorrents to host the movies and just use teh server as a tracker for the bittorrents and the people that have vid cips they want to post adn make it into a torrent adn the bandwidth is shared over those that d/l it
