Thoroughly disgusted

I read the rules about posting in the marketplace. As I'm a reader, and not a poster, I did not meet the requirements for posting my vehicle for sale. As such, I contacted a few admins to ask if there would be a way around this (as I'm clearly not a new member, and not a spammer) I was told no. I then proceed to create 18+ posts (yes, some where just congratulatory in nature, or telling someone "good work". I was a bit astounded that not only were ALL of my posts deleted even the ones helping with rod/valve train knock, options for license plates, etc. But I got a warning about my posts! On top of this, a member was looking for the exact car I was selling, so I posted a description for him. I then received another "infraction".

This is not the way to run a site.

I've had the same problem. Seems only 14 of my 25 posts actually count. No spam. Just regular replies. It's very frustrating.

It's nothing personal towards you, but if they gave you special access to bypass the post count, then everybody else would ask for the same treatment.

Yep, we deleted your post about your license plate. Oh, wait, it's still there: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...l#post11011350

As to all of your "nice thread!" posts, yes, we did delete those. And I remember deleting at least one post that asked how old the battery in the car is when the answer was in the first post of the thread. You've been trying to get into the Marketplace for at least two days with worthless posts.

You seem to have issues with rules.

You might want to start your own site.

edit: moving thread to correct sub-forum ... as amusing as this will be, posts in the new sub-forum don't count towards the Marketplace

In your case, none of your posts were deleted. The problem is that you post in Show & Shine a lot and those don't count as tech posts. This is mentioned in the rules somewhere.

Actually, it often seems as if everyone does ask. The difference is that most accept our answer, make the required useful posts, and enter the Marketplace normally. You don't see any of this (which happens behind the scenes), so you don't know how much the mods and admins have to deal with.

I suspected as much.

It's disappointing that you chose this route after my attempts to reason with you in pm's. You also paint us in a negative light despite our attempt to lead you in the right direction with a friendly warning and reminder of the rules, followed by the pm I sent below. No one is singling you out, this rule is longstanding and applies to everyone for the good of the forum.

"Cordell,

Sorry you feel this was unjust, but I looked at the warning issued by the other moderator and agree with his assessment. The marketplace is for users who contribute to the forum. In all honesty, if you posted a few well-thought-out posts per day, you would be to 15 in no time. Posting 16 posts in 2 hours is not how it's done.

Thank you,

Evom Staff"

Note to self: let the bread grow out again, buy some Steelers or U-Iowa clothes, and try not to take stuff so seriously, because the combination of that look with such reasonable posts is so darned cool that it hurts.

What does requiring members to post certain things in certain areas help the forum with? Who decides if my post is useful enough? I had posts deleted that spoke to a members valve train noise. I was attempting to help in my diagnosis...again my post was deleted. How is this helping the forum as a whole?

If you know a member is looking to buy something you have, why not just send them a PM?

That is certainly a possibility. I didn't know it was necessary to do so. But I've been threatened that if I mention my car being for sale to anyone that I'm going to be kicked off the site. That's what I call responsible moderating!!!!

I've never been a part of a forum in my life with such strict rules about posting to classifieds, honestly. But maybe the crowd here is different than in the classic car realm, NSX boards, Subie, Audi, Porsche, or offroad forums (where there are no restrictions, and oddly, no spam posts either as they are attempting to thwart here???)

I restored the valvetrain noise post. The other dozen+ posts you made in a very brief time all fell under the umbrella of useless.

Along with the picture/username requirement, the posts/time requirements to post in FS are done to discourage scam artists from showing up and ripping a bunch of our members off. It's not perfect, but it significantly reduced the fly-by-night guys from showing up. When we see someone who has barely posted before suddenly laying down a dozen meaningless posts, we generally assume they want to post in FS... and since there's never been any contribution to the site, there's a not insignificant chance those transactions won't go well.

I've been a forum member for over 2 years though. If I were going to try and scam someone, don't you think I would have tried quite some time ago? Just because someone doesn't post much (or at all) doesn't automatically make them a scam artist.

You're right though. I wanted to post my car for sale. I've never denied or tried to hide that fact. I contacted several mods before posting "useless" posts as I didn't want to have to force myself to reply to someone's post. I didn't want to post useless posts, but the settings on the site make that almost mandatory if I wanted to get a car in the classifieds. As I've stated, I'm a reader, mostly. Not a poster. I have 4 jobs, 7 cars, a kid, building 2 houses, etc. I have very little time these days. I figured posting my car for an enthusiast here on the forums would be an ideal match, as it's in pristine shape, and well taken care of. I would think that posting the VIN with a username would be sufficient.

All mods that haven't heard the "but, but, but the rules shouldn't apply to me because I'm doing you all a favor by selling my car on your site and/or I've met half of the requirement (time) but not the other half (posts)" please stand up.

Don't do it all at once, because that might cause us to break orbit.
