I believe that Mark is only talking about deleting those that don't even log in into the forums. I agree with you that some people are merely interested in collecting information. If it becomes a requirement that one must post in other to keep it's membership, we will see an increase in posts that relate no information, discussion or context.

excellent point ruipina. it seems to me that bashing and nonsence posts seem to be increasing here anyway. the moderators must have a tough time sorting out what we never see. i commend them. i hope mark deletes by lack of log ons if he has to, but there are members who used to post great stuff in the tech forums that i have'nt seen here in a few months. i would hate to see them deleted just because they haven't had time to log in let alone post anything

Right now I'm only deleting members who have 0 posts and have not logged in for the last 3-4 months. If you are actively logged in on the site you shouldn't have any problems. The reason I'd like to remove excess members is that is should help a little when running join queries which can get really large for the database.

Yeah, it's gotta be taxing the system to have this much dead weight.

Suggestion

I don't know if can send a PM so the whole site but maybe you should send one listing the criteria for retaining membership. That might fish out some people who are waiting in the wings.
