Sounds like house cleaning time. Should be like on hotmail... you know, visit/post less than once every two, three months or so... bye bye to account. This has got to be causing sooo much more effort on upkeep.

I've been doing some cleaning lately, but I don't want to remove members that don't post... only the ones that are completely inactive (ie. not even logged in) for the past 3-4 months.

IMO, most people sign up because they think it's the only way to get info in this site, ignoring the fact the search function is there....

you should do something like this: Whoever signs up for the first time will have a 30 day tracker. If they dont post a single message, but when they view the page, are logged in...will be deleted. Than for the ones who are signed up x amount of months ago will be released after 2 months of added inactivity.

Whoever signs up will have 30 days to post a message, before their account is deleted.

If they dont post a single message, but when they view the page, are logged in...will be deleted.

If they have cookies set to yes and it shows them as active, yet they still have a post count of 0 or simply do not post, that user name will be deleted.

Than for the ones who are signed up x amount of months ago will be released after 2 months of added inactivity.

If users already existed before the tracker was established they will be given x amount of days/weeks/months to post or their account will be purged.

It's easier for me just to prune based on last login and number of posts. vB keeps track of those so it's easy to delete old members.

Member no. shouldn't go up though as they are auto generated based on the table id at the time, so the number is always going up.

You can't do a search on this site unless you are signed in. I tried.

some people only join in order to obtain information on lancer products. They have no interest in posting and should not be penalized for doing so. I agree with Mark that only those that don't even log in should be deleted.

I've been a member here since april and "lurked" probably since november. this is my first post. I'm not a mechanic so i don't have anything to offer. i have on the other hand learned so much from here. i log on almost every day! Ive noticed that my name no longer exists in the registry and for that i'm bummed. I felt that being a member here was being part of a great thing. now some are suggesting that if you don't post anything ( even stupid remarks cutting into other members! ) that you dont belong here. does it realy make a dif? you cant brag about 4000+ members if you go deleting them!
