Buttonwillow or Willow Springs would probably be the best bet.. less expensive and close to most of the tuners..

Laguna Seca is going to be expensive. Especially on a weekend. It's also got a pretty strick noise level restriction which might be an issue with some of these cars. Buttonwillow and Willow Springs is a good track if you like the desert
Thunderhill is probably the best track of them all as far as layout goes. It's also good a nice paddock right in the middle of the full track. Sears/Infineon would also be nice but spectating may be a bit tough.
Just my 2c,

I think for simplicity it should just be road course and 1/4 mile. If you did it at Streets of Willow Springs for the road course, you could go to LACR (nearby) for the drag strip. Points only for Road Course and 1/4, but you can collect 0-60 and whatever data you want just for grins. The difficulty with assigning points to 0-60 times is that accurate instrumentation is far from cheap and not easy to come by. Braking and skidpad are meaningless since the road course will show everything about how well the car turns and brakes. The drag strip covers the power output. Since people don't race dynos (outside of the Supra world anyway), I don't see how that is even important. The drag strip is the ultimate real world dyno.
Based on my experience with other "shootouts" I think this is the easiest method that provides the most fair and useful outcome:
-Road course, add the fastest 3 lap times together for the total time for that car. This is more accurate than doing one bullet-fast lap in a car that can't hold together long enough to be consistent
-Drag strip, best ET wins, MPH is the tie-breaker like real drag events
-Skip the braking, skidpad and other ancillary garbage. Nobody races on skidpads or dynos

I agree completely, however it sounds like there are going to be too many cars competing to allow for enough clean lap time to actually get 25 hot laps in. My concern is with traffic, as the event is open to non-race licensed drivers, the passing will need to be restricted a bit for safety, which means you could get stuck behind slow traffic and that would hurt the overall lap times. With 25 laps and 15 cars, it is inevitable that some of those laps will be in slower traffic.

If this thing is to go down anywhere in SoCal, I would suggest someone contact the Evo Owners Club guys to help organize it. They have organized a few track events for the SoCalEvoclub.net members....and they have apparently been great events.

I sent a pm to metaphysical about this- I can get accurate timing at a reasonable price too
