Get rid of individual correspondence threads

Hey, I think it would be a good idea to not allow individual correspondence threads. Like "ATTN:STiKilla, I see you totaled your car. You okay?". Or "Hey ScubaSteve, PM me".

Isn't that what PM and e-mail are for? Everytime I log onto this board and hit the "New Posts" link, there is always crap like this. Then there are threads like "Someone yelled at me cuz I don't post here anymore".

I like the policy "If nobody gives a crap, then it shouldn't be posted". Sorry, I just think these forums are overrun with useless stuff. Most of it is in "Off Topic". Maybe if we could get new posts excluding "Off Topic"? I think that goes back to searching using the "MyEvom Furums" page.

I think the mods do a good job of keeping things in order, BTW. These are just my opinions.

I know what you mean, and yes, it is useless. I don't mind at all, but then again IT IS Off-Topic. The suggestion of having an option to choose which forums shown on your 'New Posts' page has been thrown around quite a bit. I think this would be the better option, if indeed we find the hack for it.

I think 4ce fed is correct. If you want to get someones attention PM them or email or IM. All those options are available. Why make more work for Mark in having to find a hack when all we have to do is use measures already in place. It sucks when you have 6 pages of new posts and half of the stuff is garbage like that.

i see no reason to get rid of them if we can filter what forums are available for you to see when you press "new posts".

Most of the time when those in OT post attention threads, it is geared toward a certain person, but does not warrant a PM because they want everyone (at least more than that person). Speaking as one who USED to find it annoying, they DO use PM's and AIM a lot of the time also. When put in context it makes sense, at least to me....

It's actually more work for us if we we're to go in and scan then eliminate such threads. Bottom line, it is OT and anything goes (except pornographic images, flames, etc..). But yes, I'd have to agree it tends to get annoying when it's thrown in with the other forums. Either way I'm fine with it, and I'm sure it isn't a massive problem with the other members. Like I said, hopefully we can find a hack that will let you choose which forums that you want to appear on that page.

Not really. It's only a few kilobytes. Very minimal as far as bandwidth goes.

I don't mean go in and eliminate all the current threads. It would be nice if from now on, that was policy. Sure it's "Off Topic", but do we need to see a thread that says "Who do you hate most in OT", with all the choices being the same one in the poll? I have nothing against these people, but they are just looking for attention.

However it would be handled best is fine with me. I'm all for the "New Posts" hack. That way, I won't have to look at Lancer posts anymore. The base Lancer is a nice car, just not what I care about.

First and foremost, this is a Lancer board. Having half the posts appear in OT makes no sense to me.

I can see what he means though, there are some seriously childish and POINTLESS threads. Not all of them and yes it is off topic, but you have to have a line. The thread he pointed out is one example.

Off Topic is just that - off topic. Daily and unrelated posts having nothing necessarily to do with the Lancer, RA, or Evo.

Personally, I see no reason to place a rule against individual threads. They are typically not a conversation between to people, rather a mulitude of people talking about a certain subject that could be in direct realtion to the person in the thread title. And honestly, if you are not a regular visitor in the Off Topic area, you have no real bearing on the things that are dicussed there. Granted, they may no be as important as whinning about the Evo's drivetrain or asking for the billinonth time what kind of wheels to throw onto your OZ. However, it nice to kick back in a relaxed area of the bored and post about random BS

I will make mention to a few OT regulars, however, I will not request that anything be changed in thier actions, unless otherwise told to by superiors.

Rumbled!

Seriously, though, the vast majority of the "attn" threads are much like a typical conversation with a group of friends - you're only talking to one person, but you want others to hear it. Between PM and IM, the OTers take a lot of the one-on-one conversations off the site. It's all about the context, though.
